Chapter 4 - The True Queen EmergesThe heavy iron gates at the front of the Sterling Estate groaned under the weight of a dozen black luxury SUVs that tore up the cobblestone driveway with screeching tires.

Inside the ballroom, the remaining guests—too terrified or fascinated to leave—whispered frantically among themselves. Even the federal agents paused, turning their attention toward the grand double doors as the hinges shrieked open once more.

A chilling gust of midnight wind swept through the room, carrying the sharp scent of ozone and expensive European perfume.

A woman stepped across the threshold.

She wore a breathtaking, blood-red velvet gown that trailed behind her like a royal mantle. Her raven-black hair was pulled back into a severe, elegant chignon, and dark sunglasses hid her eyes, though her razor-sharp jawline radiated an aura of absolute, untouchable power.

Behind her walked a phalanx of private attorneys carrying thick leather briefcases stamped with the seal of the international court.

Victoria Sterling, still cowering near the marble pillar with her torn dress and smeared makeup, gasped so loudly it sounded like a dying gasp. She scrambled to her feet, pointing a trembling finger at the newcomer.

"You... you're dead!" Victoria shrieked hysterically. "Your helicopter crashed in Zurich seven years ago! We attended your funeral! We inherited your estate!"

The woman in the red gown slowly removed her sunglasses, revealing piercing, emerald-green eyes that locked onto Victoria with the intensity of a predator zeroing in on a wounded deer.

"A funeral without a body, Victoria? How terribly convenient for you and Jonathan," Eleanor Vance—Elijah’s fiercely brilliant daughter and Leo’s long-lost mother—spoke. Her voice was like crushed glass wrapped in silk, dripping with venomous amusement.

Leo’s head snapped up from Clara’s shoulder. His eyes widened to the size of saucers as he stared at the stunning woman walking toward them. He had only ever seen her face in a small, faded photograph tucked away in the lining of his old winter coat—a picture Clara had secretly salvaged from the trash years ago.

"Mama...?" Leo whispered, his voice trembling so hard the word barely registered.

Eleanor stopped dead in her tracks. The icy, corporate armor she wore shattered instantly. A suffocating sob escaped her lips as she dropped to her knees right there on the dirty, champagne-soaked marble floor, completely ignoring the designer gown pooling around her.

"Leo... my baby... my sweet, sweet boy," Eleanor cried out, lunging forward and sweeping the little boy up into her arms, crushing him against her chest as if she would never let him go again.

Leo buried his face into her neck, wrapping his small arms around her tightly, sobbing tears of pure, unadulterated joy. "You came back... you really came back for me..."

"I searched for you every single day of my life, my darling," Eleanor whispered fiercely, kissing his forehead over and over again while tears streamed down her cheeks. "Those monsters told me you didn't survive the hospital fire they engineered. They tried to erase us completely. But we survived. Both of us."

Elijah stood beside them, resting a comforting hand on his daughter’s shoulder, a proud, vindicated smile touching the corners of his mouth.

Clara sat back on her heels, watching the tearful reunion with a heart full of overwhelming relief, though a sudden, quiet ache bloomed in her chest. She slowly began to back away toward the shadows of the exit, quietly smoothing down her faded maid's uniform, believing her role in the boy’s life was now finished. After all, what place did a poor kitchen maid have in a billionaire dynasty?

"Clara. Where do you think you're going?"

Eleanor’s voice stopped the maid in her tracks.

Clara froze, turning around slowly with her head bowed, her hands tightly clasped in front of her. "I... I’m sorry, Ms. Vance. I should get back to the quarters. Thank you for letting me hold him one last time."

Eleanor gently set Leo down, though she kept one protective hand resting firmly on his shoulder. She stood up, tall and commanding, and walked straight toward the bewildered maid.

Before Clara could react, Eleanor reached out, grabbed both of Clara’s rough, calloused hands, and held them tightly against her own heart.

"For five years, while I was hunted, hidden, and fighting for my life in foreign courts, you were the only mother my son knew," Eleanor said, her voice shaking with profound emotion. "You fed him when he was starving. You dried his tears when he was terrified. You gave him a soul when these monsters tried to turn him into a machine."

Eleanor looked deep into Clara’s tear-filled eyes.

"You are not leaving this family, Clara. In fact, effective immediately, you are no longer a maid in this house."

Clara’s breath hitched. "Ma'am...?"

"You are appointed as the executive director of the Leo Vance Foundation, with a permanent seat on our corporate board, a lifetime pension, and full familial status," Eleanor declared, her voice ringing clear across the silent ballroom. "You are my son’s second mother. And anyone who says otherwise answers to the entire Vance empire."

The remaining guests broke into spontaneous applause, realizing which way the wind was blowing.

But just as the emotional peak of the evening settled over the room, one of the elite corporate attorneys hurried forward, handing Eleanor a thick, emergency-sealed manila folder bearing the high-priority stamp of the Swiss Federal Banking Commission.

Eleanor opened it, scanned the first page, and her face instantly turned deadly pale.

"Father," Eleanor whispered, looking up at Elijah with sheer horror in her eyes. "Jonathan didn't act alone. The remaining sixty percent of our corporate shares... they weren't just stolen. They were transferred an hour ago to the most dangerous man in the global underworld."
