Chapter 9 - THE NEW EMPIREThree months later.

The skyline of the city looked different from the top-floor penthouse of the newly christened Vance-Sterling Tower. The building, once the stronghold of Julian’s corrupt empire, now stood as a monument to absolute resilience and justice.

Katherine stood by the floor-to-ceiling glass windows, sipping a cup of black coffee as she watched the morning sun rise over the harbor. The media storm had long since settled; Julian was currently serving a thirty-year sentence in a maximum-security federal penitentiary without the possibility of parole, while Eleanor awaited her trial behind bars with zero allies left.

The door to the private office clicked open, and Marcus walked in, carrying two warm pastries. He handed one to Katherine, smiling warmly. "The board meeting is in ten minutes. The restructuring of the global shipping lanes is officially approved."

Katherine took a bite of the pastry, a genuine smile gracing her lips. "Good. Make sure the charity foundation funds are fully restored to the orphanages Julian stole them from. Every single penny."

"Already done," Marcus said, stepping closer to her, wrapping an arm gently around her waist. "You know, you’re terrifying when you're motivated, Madame CEO."

"I had a great teacher," Katherine joked lightly, leaning her head against his shoulder. "Though I prefer to think I learned from my enemies' mistakes."

Down in the private courtyard below, six-year-old Lily could be seen laughing and playing chase with a golden retriever, completely safe, completely happy, and completely free.
