Chapter 4 - The Confession on the 50th FloorHigh above the sparkling city lights of San Diego, inside the sprawling, glass-walled boardroom on the 50th floor of Vale Tower, the atmosphere was suffocating.

The heavy mahogany conference table—a table Adrian had custom-built to symbolise his absolute dominance—was now occupied by the newly appointed executive board. At the head of the table sat Claire Whitmore Vale, flanked by Ethan Cole and a team of merciless corporate attorneys from New York.

The double doors swung open, and two security guards dragged a disheveled, furious Adrian into the room. They shoved him unceremoniously into a leather chair at the far end of the table.

Adrian caught himself, slamming his palms onto the mahogany surface and glaring around the room. Several familiar faces—longtime board members he had appointed—refused to meet his eyes, staring fixedly at the documents in front of them.

"This is an illegal coup!" Adrian shouted, his voice echoing off the glass walls. "Every single one of you is implicated in a hostile takeover! I will sue every person in this room into bankruptcy!"

"Sit down, Adrian," a calm, smooth voice echoed from the side of the room.

Adrian froze. He turned his head sharply.

Stepping out from the private executive lounge adjacent to the boardroom was Julian Vance—his bitterest corporate rival, the man who had supposedly been sharing champagne with Savannah Reed just an hour ago.

Adrian’s jaw dropped. He looked from Julian to Claire, then back to Julian.

"You..." Adrian breathed, the pieces finally clicking together in a terrifying mosaic. "You and Claire? You've been working together?"

Julian smiled, adjusting his cuffs with leisurely arrogance. He walked over to the table and casually placed his hand on the back of the chair next to Claire.

"Not working together, Adrian. Partnering," Julian corrected smoothly. "Vale Industries was sinking under your bloated ego and reckless expansion strategies. Claire needed a reliable, high-performing corporate vehicle to absorb your assets without triggering federal antitrust investigations. And I wanted your logistics network. It was a match made in heaven."

"You traitorous bitch!" Adrian roared, leaping out of his chair and lunging across the table toward Claire.

He didn't even make it two steps before the security guards grabbed him again, slamming him back down into the leather seat with bone-crushing force. One of them pressed a heavy hand onto his shoulder, keeping him pinned.

Claire didn’t even flinch. She picked up a pristine silver pen, twirled it once between her fingers, and looked at him with absolute indifference.

"You always had a terrible temper when things didn't go your way, Adrian," Claire said softly. "Remember when you broke your father's antique vase at age twelve because you lost a tennis match? You threw a tantrum, blamed everyone else, and expected the world to clean up your mess."

She placed the pen down and folded her hands on the table.

"Well, no one is cleaning up your mess this time. In fact, we’ve documented every single financial irregularity, tax evasion scheme, and offshore shell company you’ve operated over the last four years."

Adrian’s face drained of all color. His heart hammered violently against his ribs. "What... what are you talking about?"

Ethan Cole stepped forward, opening the heavy leather briefcase and sliding a thick stack of printed financial statements across the table toward Adrian.

"Offshore accounts in the Cayman Islands, Mr. Vale," Ethan said tonelessly. "Account numbers matching your personal signature, funneling corporate funds into private holdings used exclusively for your personal lifestyle, luxury vehicles, and... gifts for your mistress, Savannah Reed."

Adrian stared at the papers. His throat went completely dry. "Those... those were encrypted. How did you—?"

"I gave Ethan the encryption keys three years ago," Claire interrupted smoothly. "Every penny you thought you were hiding from me, from the IRS, and from the board was meticulously cataloged, tracked, and verified."

"You... you set me up," Adrian whispered, the reality crashing down on him with crushing weight. "The offshore accounts... you encouraged me to open them."

"I merely suggested that a man of your 'stature' deserved financial privacy," Claire replied, a faint, cold smile touching her lips. "You eagerly took the bait. Greed is a predictable flaw, Adrian. Especially yours."

"And Savannah?" Adrian asked, his voice trembling with a mixture of rage and sheer panic. "Was she part of it too? Was she your spy?"

Before Claire could answer, the glass door of the boardroom swung open.

A woman walked into the room, wearing a stunning red dress, her dark hair cascading over her shoulders. It was Savannah.

She didn't look like the fragile, pamper-seeking mistress who had fed on his ego in the La Jolla apartment. She walked with supreme confidence, her chin held high, stepping right past Adrian without even sparing him a glance. She walked straight to Julian Vance, slipping her arm through his with an intimate, familiar ease.

Adrian stared at her, his brain short-circuiting. "Savannah? What... what are you doing here? You're... you're with me! You're carrying my child!"

Savannah burst into a clear, mocking laugh.

"Your child?" She shook her head, looking at him with utter disdain. "Adrian, please. Do you really think a woman of my background would ever look twice at a self-absorbed narcissist like you if I hadn't been hired to do a job?"

Adrian felt as though he had been stabbed in the chest. "Hired? What do you mean hired?"

"Julian and I have been together for five years, darling," Savannah smiled sweetly, leaning her head against Julian’s shoulder. "When Claire approached us with the plan to dismantle your empire from the inside out, I volunteered for the starring role. The apartment, the caviar, the fake pregnancy belly—it was all scripted down to the very last syllable. And you played your part so wonderfully."

Adrian opened his mouth, but no words came out. The betrayal was absolute. Every illusion he had ever held about his charm, his intelligence, and his absolute supremacy had been systematically stripped away, leaving him naked and broken on the floor of his own boardroom.

Claire stood up slowly from her chair, smoothing down her pantsuit. She walked around the table, stopping just inches away from where Adrian sat slumped in his seat.

"The federal authorities have already received the complete dossier," Claire said quietly, her voice echoing in the silent room. "Tax fraud, embezzlement, corporate espionage, and securities manipulation. The federal marshals are waiting downstairs right now."

Adrian looked up at her, the fight completely draining out of him. Tears of sheer humiliation burned in his eyes.

"Claire... please," he choked out, his voice dropping to a desperate plea. "We were married. We have a son. Think of Noah."

At the mention of their son, Claire’s expression hardened into pure granite.

"Noah is safe, happy, and thousands of miles away from your toxic influence," Claire whispered fiercely, leaning down so only he could hear. "And the last thing you will ever do is speak his name again."

She stepped back, signaling to the security guards.

"Take him away."
