Chapter 7 - Uncharted TerritoryThree weeks had passed since the night Vincent Vale was hauled away in federal custody.

The corporate restructuring of Vale Holdings had made front-page news across the nation, hailed as a triumphant takeover by Chicago's youngest and most ruthless billionaire. But behind the closed doors of the penthouse, the billionaire was learning how to boil water and order takeout without a security detail standing guard in the kitchen.

Elena hadn't left.

What started as an accidental collision of conspiracies had evolved into something entirely uncharted. We spent evenings sitting on the leather sofa overlooking the skyline, talking about things that had nothing to do with corporate espionage, shell companies, or dark family secrets.

Tonight, however, the penthouse was quiet. Too quiet.

Marcus stepped out of the private elevator holding a manila envelope marked with a red classification stamp.

"Trouble?" I asked, setting my coffee cup down on the glass table.

"Not trouble," Marcus said, a rare grin breaking across his scarred face. "Just loose ends. The federal prosecutor handling Vincent's case sent over the contents of his private home safe in Lake Forest. Among the financial documents was this."

He tossed the envelope onto the table.

I opened it and pulled out a single, aged piece of stationery bearing my father's personal letterhead, dated two days before his fatal plane crash.

Luca, the handwriting read, bold and unmistakable. If you are reading this, it means Vincent has finally played his hand. He thinks my medical reports are his greatest weapon. But he doesn't know I kept a second set of diagnostics—real ones—secured in my private vault. You are strong, my son. Stronger than any monster he tries to turn you into. Never let them convince you that you are broken.

My fingers tightened around the paper as a sudden wave of grief and vindication washed over me. My father hadn't abandoned me to Vincent's care out of ignorance. He had known the danger, and he had left me the map to survive it.

"He knew," I whispered.

"He knew everything," Marcus replied quietly. "And so did you, once you chose to look past the lies."

Elena walked into the living room, wearing one of my oversized cotton shirts, holding a fresh cup of tea. She stopped when she saw the expression on my face.

"Is everything okay?" she asked, stepping closer.

"Everything," I said, looking up at her and reaching out to take her hand, "is finally exactly where it's supposed to be."
