Chapter 7 - The Trap at the O'Connor EstateMidnight descended over the sprawling, iron-gated estate of Liam O'Connor on the North Side of Chicago. High stone walls surrounded the sprawling Victorian mansion, guarded by perimeter patrols and automated security cameras.

Inside the mansion’s walnut-paneled study, Liam O'Connor sat behind an antique mahogany desk, swirling a glass of scotch as he waited for confirmation of Julian Sterling's escape.
The heavy oak doors of the study didn't just open—they were blown inward with a deafening crash as a C4-imploded breach cracked the reinforced locks.
Before Liam could reach for the revolver in his desk drawer, the room was flooded with armed men in tactical gear, led by Mercer.
And right behind them walked Dante Moretti.
Dante stepped into the study, his black overcoat sweeping the floor, his face a mask of absolute, terrifying calm.
Liam scrambled backward in his leather chair, his face contorting with rage and fear. "Dante! What is the meaning of this? You’re violating the commission truce! This is an act of war!"
"You tried to kill my daughter, Liam," Dante said, walking slowly toward the desk. He placed both hands on the polished mahogany and leaned down, staring directly into the old mob boss's eyes. "You sent an architect of shadows to poison a six-year-old child over a birthday cake. That isn't a violation of the truce. That’s a suicide note."
Liam swallowed hard, trying to maintain his bravado. "You have no proof! Gregory Vance was a rogue manager! Julian Sterling was a disgruntled employee! You can't pin this on the O'Connor family without starting a full-scale war in the streets of Chicago!"
"I don't need proof, Liam," Dante whispered, his voice chillingly soft. "This isn't a courtroom. This is an execution."
Suddenly, the side door of the study opened, and Mara stepped into the room, holding a laptop. She connected a cable into Liam’s private desk router.
"I’m in," Mara said, her fingers dancing across the keyboard. "I’ve just downloaded the entire ledger of O'Connor syndicate wire transfers, offshore accounts, and the encrypted communication logs between Liam and the mysterious 'Architect'."
Liam’s face turned completely white. "Who the hell is that girl?"
"That girl," Dante said, straightening up and adjusting his cuffs, "is my new general manager. And she just liquidated your entire financial empire."

Mercer stepped forward, grabbing Liam by the shoulders and jerking him out of his chair.
"Take him down to the harbor," Dante ordered coldly. "Let him swim with the fish he’s been starving for the last decade."
