Chapter 10 - The Last SunsetThe sun was beginning to dip below the Manhattan skyline, painting the clouds in shades of deep amber, bruised violet, and brilliant gold.

From the rooftop terrace of the newly restored community center, Nico and Lena stood side by side, watching the city lights flicker on one by one across the East River. The underworld was dead; the old syndicates had fractured, scattered, or surrendered to federal oversight. The era of blood, bulletproof limousines, and silent executions in the dark was over.
Beside them, Bruno rested his massive head on his paws, his deep brown eyes heavy with sleep as he gazed out over the sprawling, breathing city below.
"Do you ever miss it?" Lena asked quietly, her shoulder brushing against Nico’s as the evening breeze caught her dark hair. "The power? The empire?"
Nico looked down at his hand—the hand that had once signed death warrants and held the fate of a city in its grip. Now, it was free of rings, free of blood, and holding a warm, steady cup of coffee.
"Power is an illusion, Lena," Nico said, turning his gaze from the glittering skyline down to the crowded streets below, where children were playing basketball in the park and families were walking home without fear. "For thirty years, I thought control meant making people afraid of me. But real power... real control is knowing that when you walk down the street, you didn't leave a trail of destruction behind you. You left a path of life."
He turned to her, his dark eyes softening completely as he reached out, gently tucking a stray lock of hair behind her ear.
"You saved my life, Lena. You and that stubborn dog of yours."
May you like
Lena smiled, leaning her head against his shoulder as the first evening stars began to pierce the twilight sky. "We didn't save you, Nico. We just reminded you how to be human."
Down on the sidewalk below, a stray dog barked happily in the distance, chasing a shadow across the pavement as the city kept turning—not in ruin, but in redemption.
