Chapter 10 - THE TRUE RESETThe sunlight streamed warmly through the bay window of Mom’s newly renovated sunroom, casting a golden glow across the hardwood floor.

Mom sat comfortably in her favorite floral armchair, wrapped in a soft, woolen blanket. The dark bruising around her eye had faded to a faint yellowish hue, and her left arm, though still resting in a supportive sling, was healing nicely according to the doctors.
I placed a steaming mug of chamomile tea on the small wooden side table beside her.
"Are you sure you want to stay in this house, Mom?" I asked gently, pulling up a chair to sit across from her. "After everything that happened... we can easily sell the property, move you closer to my base in Washington, and start fresh."
Mom took a slow sip of her tea, looking around the room filled with decades of family photos, handmade quilts, and memories of a life well-lived. She smiled softly, her eyes holding that quiet, indomitable strength that had raised two children through unimaginable hardship.
"No, Clara," she said softly, reaching out with her uninjured hand to pat mine. "This is my home. Evil men and foolish children tried to burn it down, but the foundation is still standing. You don't run away from the house just because the roof leaked."
I laughed softly, feeling a profound sense of peace settle deep into my chest. "Fair enough. But we’re upgrading the security system. Direct line to federal dispatch, motion-activated floodlights, and bulletproof glass."

Mom chuckled, shaking her head. "If anyone tries to break in here now, they’ll have to get past a federal investigator first. And God help them if they try."
Outside, the autumn leaves rustled gently in the breeze, carrying away the last echoes of a stormy week. The storm had passed, the corruption had been swept clean, and for the first time in a very long time, the truth was the only thing left standing.
