Chapter 7 - The Doppelgänger’s UnravelingThe ballroom erupted into sheer, chaotic noise. Gasps echoed from every corner of the room; camera flashes went off like rapid-fire lightning.

“This is insane!” Grant shouted, his face turning red with sudden rage. “You can’t arrest my fiancée! There’s been a massive mistake—her sister is the criminal, she’s locked up across town!”

“Her sister isn't locked up anymore, Mr. Mercer,” a calm, steady voice rang out from the back of the double doors.

Every head in the grand ballroom snapped around.

I walked down the center aisle. I wasn't wearing an orange prison jumpsuit. I wore a tailored, midnight-blue velvet pantsuit, my hair styled in sleek waves, and my posture radiating absolute, unshakeable authority.

Evelyn stared at me as if I were a ghost risen from the grave. Her knees buckled slightly, and she grabbed onto the edge of the podium for support.

“Y-You... how are you out?!” Evelyn shrieked, her voice cracking with unhinged panic before the entire room. “You’re the fraud! Arrest her! She’s the one who stole my face!”

I stopped ten feet away from her, a cold, brilliant smile touching my lips.

“Stealed your face, Evie?” I asked smoothly. “You always were terrible at sharing. But you’re even worse at covering your digital tracks.”

With a flick of my wrist, I pulled out a small tablet and synced it directly to the massive overhead projector screen behind the stage.
