Chapter 10 - The New Empire and the Final VowThe sun began to crest the horizon, painting the churning ocean in brilliant strokes of gold and crimson.

The docks of Pier 41 were quiet once more, save for the wail of sirens echoing far in the distance—sirens that belonged to federal agents alerted anonymously by an encrypted text message containing every single digital drive recovered from Moretti's car.

Inside the grand estate on the cliff, the heavy oak doors of the study were wide open.

Dimitri poured two glasses of aged bourbon, handing one to Lara, who stood by the floor-to-ceiling window watching the waves crash against the stone below. Tsar lay contentedly at her feet, his massive white chin resting on her combat boots.

"The federal task force has already dismantled Moretti's entire network," Dimitri said, taking a sip of his drink and leaning against the mahogany desk. "Salvatore's assets have been frozen, and the hospital administration that fired you is currently undergoing a federal corruption audit for falsifying medical records and accepting bribes."

Lara took a slow sip of the amber liquid, the warmth spreading through her chest. She didn't smile, but a deep sense of satisfaction touched her eyes.

"St. Jude's won't be firing anyone unjustly for a very long time," Lara murmured.

Dimitri walked over, stopping just inches away from her. The storm-gray eyes that had once looked so vulnerable on the emergency gurney were now entirely devoted, fixed on her with a fierce, unwavering intensity.

"You saved my life, Lara," Dimitri said softly. "Then you saved my empire. And according to syndicate law—and my own personal code—whatever you save, you keep."

Lara turned her head, meeting his gaze with absolute fearlessness. "I’m not property to be claimed, Sokolov."

"I know," Dimitri smiled, a genuine, warm expression that suited him far better than his cold mafia mask. "Which is why I'm not asking you to be my property. I'm asking you to be my equal. My partner."

He reached into his pocket and pulled out a heavy, platinum signet ring bearing the Sokolov crest—not a wedding ring, but something far more powerful: the mark of the syndicate's true co-ruler.

Lara looked at the ring, then down at Tsar, who let out a soft, approving huff from the floor, and finally up into Dimitri's steady eyes.

She held out her hand.

"Make sure you keep the paperwork updated, boss," Lara said with a sharp, dangerous smirk. "Because from now on, I'm auditing everything."

Dimitri slid the platinum ring onto her finger, sealing an alliance that would rewrite the underworld forever.
