Chapter 9 - The Siege of Callaway Farm"Get down!" Aldo roared, drawing his Sig Sauer pistol and shoving Everett and Quinn behind a stack of heavy wooden feed bins.

"Take the girl and the brother!" Sal’s voice echoed across the open yard, booming through a megaphone from the lead truck. "Burn the barn! Leave nobody to tell the story!"

The first burst of automatic gunfire tore through the weathered wood of the east barn, sending a shower of splinters raining down over the stalls. Shouts echoed outside as Adriano’s remaining bodyguards returned fire, the sharp crack-crack of 9mm pistols punctuated by the heavy, concussive boom of a shotgun.

"They're coming through the side doors!" one of Adriano’s men screamed before a silenced round dropped him silently into the dirt.

Inside the barn, chaos erupted. Smoke from a small grease fire started by a stray tracer round began to curl lazily near the high rafters.

Adriano stood up, his face an absolute mask of death. He didn't look like a grieving brother anymore; he looked like an apex predator backed into a corner with his cubs. He drew a polished Beretta from his shoulder holster, checking the magazine with practiced, lightning-fast precision.

"Lena! Stay behind the concrete pillar!" Adriano ordered over the din of gunfire.

"I'm not hiding anymore!" Lena shouted back, her voice cutting through the noise. She didn't cower. She reached down, grabbed her heavy iron-handled mop bucket, and heaved it directly at the side window, shattering the glass as two of Sal’s enforcers tried to climb through.

"Smart girl," Aldo grunted, firing twice through the broken frame, dropping the first intruder into the mud.

But there were too many. Sal’s men pushed past the broken window, three heavy-set thugs armed with submachine guns pouring into the aisle, their eyes locked directly on Adriano and Lena.

Adriano raised his pistol, but before he could squeeze the trigger, a thunderous, unearthly squeal shook the barn walls.

Stall 4 was wide open.

Umbra—seventeen hands of pure, unadulterated Kentucky fury—exploded out of the shadows.
