Chapter 7 - The Empire Reclaimed

The silence in the boardroom was absolute. You could have heard a pin drop on the thick wool carpet.
Marcus slowly sank back into his leather chair, the fight completely drained out of him, his mouth opening and closing like a fish out of water as the reality of prison bars and federal indictments closed in around him.
Arthur Sterling cleared his throat, standing up slowly and looking around the table. "In light of these overwhelming revelations, I move to permanently strip Marcus Vance of all executive titles, revoke his voting shares, and refer all evidence directly to federal prosecutors."
Every single hand around the massive mahogany table went up instantly.
"The motion carries," Sterling announced, banging his gavel once. "Welcome back, Mr. Carter."
Ethan didn't smile. He simply nodded, turned on his heel, and walked out of the boardroom, motioning for me to follow.

"You saved my empire," Ethan said softly. "You saved my sanity. And more than that... you gave me back my truth."
"I just did what any good nurse would do," I smiled, though my heart was hammering wildly against my ribs. "Triage the wound, stabilize the patient, and remove the infection."
Ethan chuckled, stepping closer until the small space in the elevator felt completely charged with electricity. "Is that all I am to you, Elena? A patient?"
"Well," I murmured, looking up into his dark, magnetic eyes, "you were definitely the most stubborn patient I've ever had."

He reached out, his warm fingers gently tracing my jawline, tilting my chin upward. "Then maybe it's time for my prescription."
Before I could answer, his lips met mine in a fierce, tender kiss that erased every sleepless night, every financial struggle, and every ghost of the past. It wasn't the kiss of a broken billionaire and his housekeeper. It was the start of a brand-new life.
