Back in Albany, spring had fully bloomed, painting the quiet neighborhood in vibrant shades of green and gold.

I sat on the front porch with a cup of warm chamomile tea, watching the evening sun dip below the horizon.

I smiled, locking the screen and slipping the phone into my pocket.

The door behind me opened softly, and Owen stepped out onto the porch, holding a grease-stained wrench in one hand and a freshly baked chocolate chip cookie in the other.
