Chapter 4 - The Confession of a Widow MakerGabriel stopped ten feet away, the heavy tire iron gripped tightly in his right hand. His chest heaved with suppressed rage.

“Where is Lucas?” Gabriel demanded, his voice echoing off the concrete walls.

Candice chuckled, stepping closer to her bound and gagged sister. She pulled a small pocketknife from her pocket and lazily traced the flat of the blade against Chloe’s cheek.

“Lucas is safe... for now. But Chloe here? Chloe tried to run away with our client list. She grew a conscience. Isn't that tragic?” Candice sighed theatrically.

Chloe whimpered behind her duct-tape gag, her eyes wide with absolute terror.

“You’re insane,” Gabriel spat. “You killed Clara. You poisoned her medication just to get into this house, just to steal her trust fund and start your little syndicate.”

Candice stopped pacing. She looked at Gabriel with a look of profound, chilling pity.

“Clara? Oh, Gabriel... you really are a simple, trusting fool. You think I was the mastermind who targeted Clara?” Candice let out a sharp, mocking laugh. “I was just the field agent. I was the one who applied the makeup and smiled at your church socials.”

Gabriel’s grip on the tire iron tightened until his knuckles popped. “What are you talking about?”

“Clara wasn't murdered because she found out about a charity fund,” Candice whispered, stepping closer, her eyes gleaming in the flickering light. “Clara was murdered because she found out who owned this entire network. She found out that the syndicate wasn't run by a group of women... but by the man who built your entire life from the ground up.”

Before Gabriel could process the words, a slow, rhythmic clapping echoed from the shadows behind the corridor.

Step by heavy step, a figure emerged from the darkness.

He wore a tailored dark suit, wire-rimmed glasses, and on his right hand, catching the pale fluorescent light, was a silver ring set with a deep, blood-red stone.

It wasn't a blue stone. It was red.

And Gabriel recognized the face instantly. It was the man who had officiated his wedding to Clara twelve years ago.
