Chapter 9 - Monday Morning RedefinedThe following Monday at 8:55 AM, the lobby of Hartwell Consumer Group looked entirely different.

Or perhaps, Claire realized as she walked through the revolving doors, it was just that her perspective had changed.

She wasn't wearing cracked pumps covered with a permanent marker anymore. Instead, she wore a sharp, elegant navy blazer over a silk blouse, paired with brand-new, comfortable Italian leather heels. Beside her walked Maya Lin, looking equally sharp in a tailored charcoal suit, her portfolio clutched proudly in her arms.

The front desk receptionist—the same woman who had coldly told Claire to leave a week ago—looked up, froze, and immediately stood straight up, offering a bright, deferential smile.

"Good morning, Ms. Bennett. Good morning, Ms. Lin," the receptionist said, her voice dripping with polite professionalism. "Mr. Hartwell’s executive assistant notified us you were arriving. Badge printing is all set on the forty-first floor."

"Thank you," Claire said smoothly, offering a polite nod.

As they walked toward the private elevators, Claire glanced at the exact spot on the polished marble floor where Thomas Hartwell had stumbled a week ago.

The spot was gone—clean, gleaming, and reflecting the morning light pouring through the glass doors.

Just then, the revolving doors spun, and an old man walked inside.

He wore a faded brown coat, plain khaki pants, and scuffed work boots. His silver hair was slightly damp from the morning mist, and he leaned on a wooden cane, carrying an old canvas bag.

Several junior executives walking past him instinctively stepped aside, whispering among themselves, some of them casting mild, dismissive glances his way.

Thomas Hartwell paused near the elevators, looking around the lobby with his sharp, slate-blue eyes.

When he spotted Claire and Maya standing by the private elevator bank, a slow, warm smile spread across his weathered face.

Claire smiled back, feeling a swell of deep affection and profound gratitude. She didn't hesitate. Leaving Maya by the elevator for a second, Claire walked over to the old man.

"Good morning, Mr. Hartwell," Claire said softly, stepping in beside him to help guide his arm toward the private lift.

Thomas looked down at her, his eyes twinkling with quiet amusement.

"Morning, Claire," the billionaire patriarch rumbled, leaning on his cane. "Did you bring your portfolio today?"

"No, sir," Claire replied, falling into step beside him as the private elevator doors glided open. "I brought my team."

Thomas laughed—a deep, booming sound that echoed across the marble lobby, turning heads and catching the attention of everyone in the room.

As the private doors closed behind them, shutting out the corporate world below, Claire looked up at the digital numbers scrolling upward toward the forty-first floor.

She wasn't just surviving anymore.

She was home.
