Chapter 9 - The Dawn of a New EraAs we left the subterranean detention level and ascended back up to the penthouse suite, the morning sunlight flooded through the floor-to-ceiling glass windows, illuminating the sprawling metropolis below.

The city was different today.

Across the districts, news reports were already broadcasting the miraculous rollout of public funding, new community hospitals, and restored infrastructure—all financed by the assets recovered from the corrupt elites who had bled the city dry for decades. The era of untouchable impunity was officially over.

My father walked over to the wet bar, poured two glasses of sparkling mineral water, and handed one to me. We stood side by side, looking out over the horizon where the naval blockades had quietly withdrawn into the deep ocean, leaving behind only the calm, steady rhythm of the crashing waves.

"What's next, Victoria?" my father asked, clinking his glass gently against mine. "The board of directors is meeting this afternoon. They want to formally reinstate you as Chief Executive Officer of Vance Global."

I took a slow sip of the crisp water, feeling the cool refreshment settle through me. The bruise beneath my eye was barely visible now, hidden beneath expert cosmetics and the quiet confidence of a woman who had faced the abyss and emerged completely unbroken.

"Let them meet," I said, a faint, resolute smile touching my lips. "I have a few new policies I want to introduce."

My father chuckled—a deep, resonant sound of genuine pride. "I figured you would. Just remember, power isn't just about building walls to keep people out or locking doors to trap your enemies."

I turned to look at him, raising an eyebrow. "Oh? What is it then?"

"It's about making sure," my father said softly, his eyes reflecting the bright morning light, "that no one ever dares to test your strength again."

I nodded slowly, looking back out at the vast, sprawling city below where the old world had crumbled and a new one was finally beginning to rise from the ashes.

They thought the story ended when the steel doors locked. In reality, that was only page one.
