Chapter 8 - Shadows Over ZurichThe private Gulfstream jet touched down on the tarmac of Zurich Kloten Airport under a heavy, overcast Swiss sky. The crisp alpine air carried the scent of pine and old money—the kind of generational wealth that believed it was completely immune to the turbulence of the modern world.

I stepped off the private boarding stairs, wearing a tailored black cashmere trench coat and dark sunglasses that shielded my eyes from the biting wind. Behind me walked four tactical security specialists from my father’s elite detail, followed closely by my chief legal counsel, Marcus Vance.
Waiting at the private aviation terminal was a sleek, armored Mercedes-Maybach, its engine idling silently.
"The board of directors for Swiss-Nordic Energy Holdings is holding an emergency summit at their private alpine chalet outside Davos this afternoon," Marcus reported smoothly, handing me a secure leather folder as we slid into the plush leather seats of the vehicle. "They assume we’re just another foreign investment firm looking to negotiate a hostile buyout of their failing shipping lanes."
I opened the folder, scanning the financial schematics and encrypted communication intercepts.
"They shorted our energy reserves three weeks ago, assuming Ashford Global's collapse meant our family's primary liquidity was drained," I noted, a cold smile playing on my lips.
"Precisely," Marcus nodded. "They thought we were weak. They didn't realize Ashford Global was just a minor domestic testing ground for your administrative capabilities."
I closed the folder and looked out the tinted window as the Maybach accelerated onto the Swiss highway, winding its way up into the snow-capped peaks of the Alps.
For years, men like the executives sitting in that Davos chalet had treated the global financial markets like their private playground, stepping on smaller companies, ruining lives, and assuming that because wealth whispered, it never had to answer for its cruelty.
