Chapter 9 - THE NEW DYNASTYThe transition of power within the Moretti syndicate was unlike anything the underworld had ever witnessed.

With Victor behind bars and the federal indictments firmly sealing our legitimacy, Lorenzo systematically dismantled the illegal arms and drug networks, redirecting all syndicate assets entirely into high-end real estate, technology investments, and global humanitarian foundations. The Moretti name went from being synonymous with fear and bloodshed to a symbol of absolute power, respect, and unstoppable philanthropy.
On a warm Friday evening, a grand dinner party was held in the estate’s main banquet hall. It wasn't a gathering of mafia capos or corrupt politicians; it was a celebration of life, attended by local dignitaries, charity directors, doctors, and close friends.
I stood at the top of the grand staircase—the very staircase where, less than a year ago, I had scrubbed floors on my knees with cracked, bleeding hands, hiding from cruel bosses and a bleak, terrifying future.
Now, I wore a sweeping, elegant emerald-green silk gown that matched the aquamarine ring on my finger.
Lorenzo stood beside me, his arm wrapped securely around my waist, looking out over the glittering ballroom.
"Penny for your thoughts, Mrs. Moretti?" Lorenzo whispered softly in my ear, using my new title with a playful, affectionate smile.
I leaned my head against his shoulder, watching as Giovanni sat near the head table, smiling broadly as several guests came over to pay their respects to the legendary patriarch.
"I was just thinking about how strange life is," I murmured. "If Brody hadn't left me... if Mrs. Gable hadn't shoved that tray of cold oatmeal into my hands... I never would have walked into Room 4B. I never would have met you."
Lorenzo turned me gently so I was facing him, his dark eyes filled with fierce, unwavering devotion.
"Every hardship you went through, Chloe, was just preparing you for where you belong," he said, kissing my lips tenderly. "You walked into a house of ghosts and brought everyone back to life—starting with my father, and ending with me."

Across the room, Giovanni raised his crystal glass of sparkling cider in a silent toast toward us, his eyes twinkling with warmth and pride.
I raised my glass in return, feeling the deep, unbreakable strength of the family we had built together.
