Chapter 4 - The Morning AfterAt 7:00 AM, I walked out of the warehouse into the crisp, biting Chicago morning air.

My phone—the burner device I used as Jack Rowan—buzzes against my palm. A text message from an unknown number flashed across the screen:

“Jack Rowan. You survived your first week. Come to the secondary loading dock at noon. We need to talk about Brent and what you heard last night.”

It was Hannah.

I checked my primary CEO phone—the encrypted satellite device that remained locked in the glove compartment of my parked luxury sedan down the street. It was flooded with missed calls and urgent board memos:

“Jackson, where are you? The quarterly audit conference call starts in four hours. Marcus is demanding immediate authorization to sign the restructuring agreement.”

A dangerous, predatory smile touched my lips.

Let them wait. Let Marcus prepare his final speech for the board. Let Julian anticipate his multi-million-dollar payout.

The trap was fully set. All I needed was to make sure Hannah was safe before I dropped the hammer.
