Chapter 10 - The Balance Sheet of LifeThree months later, the Chicago winter had broken, replaced by the crisp, bright promise of a spring morning.

The Rosetti estate was quiet again—not the oppressive, paranoid silence of a fortress under siege, but the peaceful hum of a home.

In the private medical wing, a team of top-tier oncologists from Zurich walked out of my room, smiling broadly and shaking Dominic’s hand. The synthetic tumor that had been slowly killing me for years had been successfully excised, leaving behind clean scans and a second chance at life that I had no right owning.

I sat on the white stone patio overlooking the manicured gardens, sipping black coffee.

Lily ran across the lawn, chasing a golden retriever puppy Dominic had bought her, her laughter echoing brightly into the morning air.

Dominic walked up behind me, sliding a fresh, clean leather-bound ledger onto the glass table. No red ink. No hidden shell companies. Just clean, balanced numbers and a new beginning.

“The board has officially voted you in as chief financial director of Rosetti Global,” Dominic said, leaning against the stone railing and looking out at his daughter. “You own a five percent stake in the shipping lines, a penthouse downtown, and a medical clearance that says you’re going to live to be a hundred.”

I looked down at the ledger, then at the silver wolf bracelet glinting on Lily’s wrist as she waved at me from the garden.

“You know I still remember everything, right?” I said quietly. “Eva, the investigation, the betrayal. All of it came back.”

Dominic nodded slowly, his expression solemn yet deeply at peace. “I know. And I also know why Eva wrote your name in that journal. She knew that when the storm finally came, you were the only man in the world who would stop running long enough to save what mattered most.”

He raised his coffee cup toward mine in a silent toast.

“Welcome home, Julian.”

I raised my cup, taking a slow sip as the morning sun broke fully through the clouds, bathing the entire estate in golden light. The books were balanced, the past was laid to rest, and for the first time in my life, the ledger of my future was completely blank, waiting to be written.
