Chapter 8 - The CrossfireBefore Vincent's hand could fall, the entire railyard plunged into pitch blackness.

Pop-pop-pop!
The master electrical transformer overhead exploded in a shower of blue sparks as high-velocity rounds tore through the control boxes. Panic erupted among Vincent’s guards as tactical flashlights cut through the darkness, blinding them.
"Dominic!" Vincent roared, drawing his own weapon. "I know you're here, you coward!"
Chaos erupted around me. Gunfire crackled like dry timber as Dominic’s elite squad descended from the catwalks above. I threw myself behind the heavy iron wheels of the freight car just as a barrage of bullets chewed up the wood inches from my head.
Through the deafening roar of gunfire, I saw Vincent scrambling toward his lead sedan, trying to escape.
I couldn't let him get away. If Vincent slipped through our fingers, Lily would never be safe.
Ignoring the blinding pain tearing through my chest, I pushed myself up and sprinted across the open gravel, tackling Vincent just as he reached his car door. We crashed hard into the muddy ground, rolling under the chassis of the vehicle.
Vincent snarled, driving his elbow straight into my ribs. The impact landed squarely on my tumor-weakened chest. A searing, agonizing shriek of pain echoed in my ears, and I tasted warm, metallic blood flooding my mouth.
Vincent whipped out a heavy combat knife, pinning my shoulder to the dirt with his knee, raising the blade to drive it into my throat.
"Die, you pathetic nobody," Vincent spat.

Just as the blade descended, a heavy boot slammed into Vincent’s jaw, sending him flying off me like a ragdoll.
Dominic stood over his brother, his gun pressed squarely between Vincent’s eyes.
