Chapter 10 - THE UNBROKEN FAMILYThree months later.

The summer sun was shining bright and hot over the gardens of the Moretti estate. The flowers were in full bloom, painting the grounds in vibrant shades of red, gold, and violet.
A large white marquee had been set up on the lawn, filled with fairy lights, fresh flowers, and dozens of guests—not mob bosses or shadowy figures, but doctors, charity workers, city officials, and local families from the children's foundation.
Inside the grand master suite, I stood in front of the full-length mirror, adjusting the lace sleeves of my ivory wedding gown.
My reflection looked back at me—no longer the tired, pale waitress with sixty-three dollars in her bank account, but a woman whose eyes were filled with peace, strength, and an deep, abiding love.
A knock came at the door.
"Come in," I said softly.
The door opened, and Lilia skipped inside, wearing a matching ivory flower-girl dress with a small crown of white roses in her dark hair. She held a basket of rose petals in one hand and my hand-written vows in the other.
"Maya! You look like a princess!" Lilia gasped, her eyes wide with wonder.
"And you look like a queen, sweetie," I smiled, kneeling down—careful not to wrinkle the dress—to wipe a tiny smudge of pink frosting off her nose. "Are you ready?"
"Daddy is waiting by the altar," Lilia whispered excitedly. "He looks very handsome, but he keeps checking his watch because he's nervous!"
I laughed softly, a bright, happy sound that echoed through the room. "The Shadow King is nervous?"
"Very nervous," a deep voice chimed from the doorway.
Adrian was standing there. He wore a tailored black tuxedo that fit his broad frame perfectly. His dark hair was styled, his stubble neatly trimmed, and his icy blue eyes were fixed on me with a warmth that could melt glaciers.
"You're not supposed to see the bride before the ceremony," I teased, stepping back.
Adrian walked into the room, ignoring the rule completely. He reached out, gently wrapping his arms around my waist, pulling me close against his chest. His heart was beating fast—steady, strong, and entirely mine.
"I’ve spent my whole life breaking rules, Maya," Adrian whispered, leaning down to press a soft, lingering kiss to my lips. "I wasn't going to wait another minute to look at my wife."
"Not your wife yet," I reminded him, resting my hands on his lapels.
"In ten minutes, you will be," Adrian murmured, his thumb gently tracing my jawline. "You gave me back my daughter. You saved my life. You brought light into a house that had known only darkness for a decade."
"We saved each other, Adrian," I corrected softly, looking up into his eyes. "I was lost in the cold, and you gave me a home."
Lilia tugged gently on the hem of my dress, inserting herself between us and taking both of our hands into her tiny fingers. "Can we go eat cake now? I promised Victor I'd save him the biggest piece!"
Adrian and I looked down at our daughter, laughing together as the summer breeze drifted through the open windows, carrying the sweet scent of blooming roses and the distant, joyous music of the celebration below.

The shadows of Graybridge had finally faded into the light, leaving behind a family built not on blood or fear, but on an unbreakable promise made in the cold dark of a winter night.
