Chapter 11 - FOREVER CROSSMOORTwo months later.

The Louisiana sun was setting over Crossmoor House, painting the sky in violent shades of crimson, gold, and bruised purple. The massive iron gates stood open, but the chaos of the outside world felt a million miles away.

In the sprawling back garden, beneath the ancient oak trees draped in Spanish moss, four six-year-old boys in matching little linen shirts were happily chasing a golden retriever puppy across the manicured lawn.

Sitting on a porch swing nearby, swinging her little pink sneakers back and forth, was seven-year-old Lily Ellison. She was wearing a pretty yellow sundress, clutching a brand-new sketchbook in her lap, laughing brightly as Gabriel—the quiet one—carefully handed her a crown made of freshly picked daisies.

Mara stood on the wide stone veranda, leaning against the wooden railing, holding a glass of iced tea.

Footsteps approached from behind. Strong, familiar arms wrapped around her waist, pulling her back against a warm, solid chest. A chin rested comfortably on her shoulder.

"You know," Damon murmured, his deep voice vibrating against her back, "the boys are actually in bed by eight o'clock every single night now. I’m starting to think you've put some kind of dark magic spell on my household."

Mara smiled, leaning back into his embrace, turning her head to press a soft kiss against his rough cheek. "It's not magic, Damon. It's just boundaries, predictability, and a whole lot of stubborn love."

Damon chuckled, turning her around in his arms so she was facing him. The setting sun caught the silver in his dark hair and the fierce, unadulterated devotion in his stormy gray eyes. He reached into his pocket, pulled out a small black velvet box, and popped it open.

Inside rested the real ring—not a temporary placeholder from a family vault, but a custom-crafted diamond and platinum band that caught the evening light like liquid fire.

"The custody case is closed, the bank accounts are secure, and my sons adore you," Damon whispered, his voice dropping into a raw, gravelly hum that made her heart race just as fast as it had the first night under the porch portico. "No more fake engagements. No more corporate partnerships. Just us."

Mara looked down at the ring, then up into the eyes of the man who had terrified Baton Rouge, stood up to federal prosecutors, and threatened to feed her ex-husband to alligators just to keep her safe.

"Does this mean I'm officially off head nanny duty?" Mara teased, a playful sparkle in her dark eyes.

"Never," Damon grinned, capturing her lips in a deep, sweeping, breathless kiss that tasted like forever. "Somebody has to keep the King of the Gulf in line."
