CHAPTER 2: The Boy Who Was Never Supposed to Exist
The applause died instantly.
Every eye in the ballroom turned toward the three men in black suits standing at the entrance.
Lily’s mother pulled her daughter close.
“Who are they?” she whispered.
But the little boy didn’t answer.
His small hand slipped away from Lily’s fingers, and for the first time, fear crossed his face.
The tallest man stepped forward.
“Master Noah,” he said coldly. “Your grandfather wants you home.”
A shockwave moved through the room.
Master?
This poor-looking boy?
Noah lowered his head.
“I’m not going back.”
The man’s smile disappeared.
“You don’t have a choice.”
Before anyone could react, Lily grabbed Noah’s sleeve.
“Don’t take him,” she said, her voice shaking. “He helped me walk.”
Noah looked at her with tears in his eyes.
“I didn’t heal you, Lily,” he whispered. “You were never broken.”
Then he turned to the crowd.
“Her doctors lied.”
The ballroom went silent.
Lily’s mother froze.
“What did you say?”
Noah pointed toward an older man standing near the VIP table — Dr. Warren, the famous surgeon who had treated Lily after the accident.
“He told your family she couldn’t walk again because someone paid him to keep her in that wheelchair.”
Lily’s mother went pale.
“No…”
Dr. Warren dropped his champagne glass.
Noah’s voice trembled, but he continued.
“Your husband paid him.”
The entire ballroom erupted.
Lily’s father stood from his chair, his face twisted with rage.
“You little liar!”
But Noah didn’t move.
He reached into his worn jacket and pulled out a small silver recorder.
Then Lily’s father’s own voice filled the ballroom speakers:
“As long as she stays disabled, the inheritance stays under my control.”
Lily’s mother covered her mouth and screamed.
Lily looked at her father like she was seeing a monster for the first time.
And Noah?
He stepped back as the men in black surrounded him.
Because the truth was finally out…
But so was his secret.
