Chapter 9 - THE BATTLE FOR MERCER DYNAMICSAt 3:15 PM, the glass boardroom on the 54th floor was packed with fifteen board members. At the head of the table sat Evelyn Sterling, an icy woman in an emerald suit, holding a silver pen.

"Matthew, the motion has been read," Evelyn said coldly as David entered the room. "You have compromised the financial integrity of this firm for a public relations stunt involving low-level contractors. We are voting today to appoint an interim CEO."

"Before you cast that vote, Evelyn," David said calmly, stepping aside to let Emily enter the room carrying a weathered cardboard box, "I think you should review the forensic audit of Sterling Global Logistics."

Evelyn’s composure wavered slightly. "What is the meaning of this?"

Emily set the box on the marble conference table and pulled out a stack of yellowed invoices bearing Evelyn Sterling’s signature alongside Richard Sterling’s corporate stamp.

"Between 2018 and 2024," David explained, leaning over the table, "Sterling Logistics billed Mercer Dynamics 2.4 million dollars for 'phantom shipping routes' that were never dispatched. Richard approved the invoices, and Evelyn signed the receipts. That isn't just corporate negligence, Evelyn. That is federal mail fraud, wire fraud, and grand larceny."

The board members immediately began whispering frantically among themselves. Two shareholders pulled out their tablets to inspect the documents.

"Where did you get these?" Evelyn spat, her face pale with fury, glaring at Emily.

"She found them," David said proudly, placing a hand on Emily’s shoulder. "Because while you were busy stealing millions from this company, Emily was down in the archives doing her job with complete integrity. Something no one in your family understands."

Within ten minutes, the board voted unanimously to strip Evelyn Sterling of her voting rights, initiate a civil lawsuit against Sterling Logistics, and reaffirm David Mercer as CEO with full executive authority.

Evelyn was escorted out by security, her legacy in tatters.
