Chapter 8 - Midnight RaidAt 12:15 AM, the fog rolled in heavy off the Long Island Sound, turning the sprawling lawns of the Moretti estate into a ghostly labyrinth of gray shadows and ancient oak trees.

Three black SUVs tore through the outer stone gates, their headlights cut, tires crunching violently over the gravel drive. At the same moment, a high-speed Zodiac boat touched the rocky shoreline below the cliff, disgorging six heavily armed men dressed in black tactical gear.
They moved with chilling precision, cutting through the perimeter fence and advancing toward the mansion’s service wing.
Leading the assault was Paulie Marcone himself. He held a silenced submachine gun, a cruel, confident smirk plastered across his face.
“Moretti thinks he’s a ghost,” Paulie muttered into his comm-link. “Break the glass on the service door. Clear the lower hallway. Let’s finish this.”
The heavy glass of the service door shattered with a sharp, crisp crash.
The tactical team swarmed into the hallway, boots pounding against the polished tile. They moved past the empty staff lounge, past the beverage room, and straight toward the main staircase leading to the upper levels.
Not a single guard appeared to stop them.
“It’s a ghost town,” one of the mercenaries whispered into his radio as they reached the grand foyer. “Either they fled or they’re hiding in the master wing.”
“Keep moving,” Paulie ordered, stepping into the center of the grand marble foyer beneath the magnificent crystal chandelier. “Find Moretti and bring me his head.”
Suddenly, the massive wrought-iron double doors at the far end of the foyer clicked open.
A single overhead spotlight clicked on, bathing the center of the room in blinding white light.
Standing at the top of the grand marble staircase, dressed in a tailored black suit with his white shirt collar open at the neck, was Adrian Moretti.
In his right hand, resting casually against his thigh, was the custom-engraved Beretta.
Paulie stopped dead in his tracks, raising his submachine gun. “Well, well, well. Look who decided to greet us. Thought you’d be hiding in a bunker, Moretti.”
Adrian didn't smile. He didn't blink. He simply looked down at the six heavily armed men surrounding his foyer as if they were nothing more than a mild inconvenience.
“You’re trespassing, Paulie,” Adrian said, his voice echoing off the marble walls with terrifying clarity.
“I’m taking over, you arrogant bastard!” Paulie shouted, tightening his finger on the trigger. “Drop the gun and—”
Before Paulie could finish his sentence, the heavy oak doors behind the mercenaries slammed shut with a thunderous crash.
From the shadows of the balcony above, Marco, Sal, and a dozen elite security guards stepped into view, every single weapon trained directly on the intruders' chests.
“Drop your weapons,” Adrian commanded softly.
Paulie’s face drained of color as he realized the trap had sprung shut. “You... you led us right in here.”
“You wanted my empire, Paulie,” Adrian said, taking a slow step down the grand staircase, his eyes locked on the terrified emissary. “You wanted my blood. But you made one fatal mistake.”
Paulie swallowed hard, his hands trembling on his weapon. “What... what mistake?”
May you like
Adrian stopped halfway down the stairs, the cold steel of his pistol catching the light.
“You threatened my home.”
