Chapter 10 - A NEW EMPIRE BEGINSThe morning sun broke through the heavy gray clouds of Lake Forest, casting a golden light across the manicured lawns of the Vale estate. The dark winter storm had passed, leaving the air crisp, clean, and biting.

Inside the grand study, the motorized wheelchair sat abandoned in the corner of the room, gathering dust—a monument to a prison that no longer existed.

Dominic Vale stood by the tall glass window, looking out over the iron gates where armed guards patrolled the grounds. His right leg still ached with a dull, persistent throbbing, but every step he took across the hardwood floor felt like a reclamation of his soul.

A soft knock sounded at the door.

"Come in, Clara," Dominic said without turning around.

The door opened, and Clara stepped inside carrying a fresh cup of black coffee on a silver tray. Her gray uniform was gone, replaced by a sharp, tailored blazer—the new uniform of the estate's chief operations coordinator.

"The wire transfer for your sister’s medical treatments has cleared," Dominic said, turning to face her. "Dr. Vance at Johns Hopkins has already scheduled Nora for her next round of specialized therapy. She’s going to make a full recovery, Clara."

Tears welled in Clara’s eyes, though she blinked them back quickly, offering a radiant, genuine smile. "Thank you, Mr. Vale. I don't know how I'll ever repay you."

"You already have," Dominic replied quietly. He walked over, setting his coffee cup down on the desk, and extended his hand toward her. "An empire is only as strong as the people who are brave enough to tell the truth when everyone else is lying."

Clara looked down at his outstretched hand, then up into his dark, unwavering eyes. She placed her palm in his, feeling the steady, powerful warmth of a man who had finally reclaimed his crown.

Outside the estate, the city of Chicago woke to a new reality. The Vale empire hadn't fallen; it had just been reborn, sharper and more ruthless than ever before—and this time, the king was walking on his own two feet.
