Chapter 6 - THE FINAL RECKONINGAs the house began to collapse, the contract turned to ash in my hands. The box—my mother’s box—started to glow. A spirit, ethereal and kind, materialized in the dust.

"Clara," she whispered.

"Mom?"

"The debt is paid," she said, fading away as the ceiling caved in. "Run."

I grabbed Ghost by the collar and sprinted out the front door just as the manor buckled inward, swallowed by the earth it had been built on. Vane didn't make it out. He was buried under the weight of his own greed.
