Chapter 9 - THE NEW HORIZONSpring arrived in Manhattan with an explosion of green leaves and warm sunlight streaming through the Central Park trees.

I stood on the stone steps of the Metropol Museum, watching the charity gala for my mother’s foundation take shape beneath the grand white tents.

The foundation was fully funded again, its assets secured by unbreakable multi-tiered trusts that no predatory husband could ever touch.

Elias Monroe walked up beside me, handing me a clipboard with the final guest list.

"Every major donor has confirmed," Elias said approvingly. "And Veridian Capital has doubled their annual endowment contribution in light of the corporate restructuring."

"Good," I smiled, scanning the names.

"By the way," Elias added, pausing slightly. "Nathaniel’s sentencing hearing concluded this morning. Twelve years federal, no parole for at least eight."

I didn't feel a surge of triumph. I didn't feel anger. I just felt a quiet, profound sense of closure. The ghost that had haunted my marriage was finally locked away where he could never harm anyone again.

"Let's make sure the press release emphasizes the foundation's independent auditing standards," I told Elias. "We want every young woman entering our trust network to know that their assets, their safety, and their autonomy are absolute."

Elias nodded respectfully. "Consider it done, Madam Chairwoman."
