Chapter 6 - The AftermathBy 2:00 AM, the grand ballroom was completely empty of guests, politicians, and moguls.

The crystal chandeliers hummed quietly in the cavernous space, casting light over scattered champagne flutes, torn napkins, and discarded designer accessories. The glittering elite had been processed, loaded into unmarked transport vans, and hauled off to federal holding facilities across the state.

I stood near the grand staircase, looking down at the red velvet banister where Julian had slammed me into the wall just hours earlier. The thin streak of blood on my lower lip had dried, a small physical reminder of the cost of the war we had just won.

My mother, Evelyn, walked up beside me, holding two crystal glasses filled with sparkling water. She handed one to me and offered a soft, proud smile.

"You handled that like a veteran negotiator, Victoria," she said quietly, clinking her glass gently against mine. "Your father would have been proud."

"He was the one who left the blueprint," I replied, taking a small sip. "We just followed his instructions."

From the doorway, Jonathan walked in, shedding his tactical jacket and tossing it onto a nearby sofa with a sigh of relief. "Well, the federal task force has secured all primary assets. The SEC has frozen every Sterling account globally, and the board has already voted to reinstate your father’s legacy projects under the original Vance Architecture banner."

"And the politicians?" I asked.

"Resigning by the dozen before the sun comes up," Jonathan smirked, pouring himself a drink from a bottle of untouched scotch left on the bar. "Turns out, loyalty in high society lasts right up until the moment federal indictments hit the morning papers."

I looked out through the open doors toward the sprawling lawns of the estate, where dawn was just beginning to streak the eastern sky with pale gold and violet. The dark era of corporate predation and untouchable corruption in this city was over. Not because a miracle happened, but because we refused to stay silent, refused to be broken, and refused to play by a rigged set of rules.

"What's next?" Evelyn asked, looking at me with warmth and deep respect.

May you like

I reached up, touching the corner of my mouth where the bruise was already beginning to fade, and smiled.

"We rebuild."
