Chapter 4 - THE RESURRECTION OF THE DEAD"You're dead," Jasper whispered, the words tasting like ash in his mouth. "The police... the coroner... the DNA match from the charred remains in the wreckage—"

"Were bought and paid for by the man who runs this house," Garrett interrupted, stepping out of the dark alcove. The kerosene lantern cast flickering, demonic shadows across his hollow cheeks. He gestured back into the hidden chamber. "Come inside. If Conrad's security detail patrols this wing, we're both dead men."
Jasper stepped across the threshold of the secret room. The space was shockingly large—a reinforced concrete bunker built beneath the foundations of the 19th-century mansion during the Cold War, later converted into a private prison cell. A narrow cot, a small wooden table, and a stack of empty water bottles littered the floor.
"Explain," Jasper ordered, his voice dropping into a dangerous, controlled register. "Now."
Garrett set the lantern down on the table, wincing as he touched the bruised skin on his temple. "Six months ago, I found out what Conrad was doing. He wasn't just skimming off the shipping accounts. He was building a syndicate within our own ranks, smuggling narcotics through our ports, and using our family name as a shield. When I confronted Father about it... Father didn't act surprised. He already knew."
Jasper stared at him, his mind racing to connect the pieces. "Father knew?"
"He was trapped," Garrett muttered bitterly. "Conrad had something on him—something deep from the past. When Father tried to back out, Conrad poisoned his evening tea. I tried to smuggle Father out of the estate that night, but Conrad's men intercepted us on the coastal road. They ran our car off the cliff. They pulled me out before the car went up in flames, dragged me down here, and locked me away in this tomb."
Garrett looked up, his eyes burning with a desperate intensity. "They staged the crash to make it look like a double fatality. Father died from the poison before the car even hit the water. And I became a ghost."
"And Jonah?" Jasper asked, his voice tightening. "Does the boy know?"
"He doesn't know I'm alive," Garrett said, his voice cracking for the first time. "He was eight years old when they locked me away. He saw them drag me down here. That's why he hasn't spoken a word. He's been protecting me, bringing me scraps of food whenever the guards weren't looking, standing guard by this wall every single night. And Brutus... Brutus stayed with us every second."
Jasper fists clenched at his sides, his knuckles turning white. The dark puzzle pieces were falling into place with terrifying clarity. Conrad hadn't just stolen their empire; he had held their family hostage, piece by piece, waiting for Jasper to return so he could eliminate the final heir in one clean sweep.
"Conrad thinks he won," Jasper said, a cold, lethal smile spreading across his face—the smile of a predator who had spent a decade building an underworld empire of his own. "He thinks he owns the Concincaid name."
Garrett looked at his younger brother, seeing the terrifying transformation in him. The boy who was cast out ten years ago had returned as a warlord.

"What do we do?" Garrett asked.
Jasper turned toward the shattered wall, his eyes fixed on the darkness of the corridor beyond. "We let him think he's winning. Until the board meeting on Monday."
