Chapter 8 - THE WHISPER OF THE SYNDICATEThree weeks later, the Concincaid estate felt almost normal again.

The sound of laughter—something that hadn't echoed through the vaulted hallways in ten years—finally broke the silence. Jonah was running across the lawn, chasing a barking Brutus as the massive mastiff bounded through the autumn leaves.

Garrett watched them from the stone porch, a cup of black coffee in his hand. He had regained his strength, his posture returning to the proud, unyielding stance of a true head of the family.

Inside his private study, Jasper sat behind the massive oak desk. The laptop screen before him glowed with a string of encrypted data strings and financial wire transfers originating from Zurich and Hong Kong.

Conrad Vance hadn't acted alone. The Cayman accounts weren't just for local drug smuggling; they were part of a global consortium known only as The Assembly—a secret council of corporate titans and mafia bosses who controlled maritime trade routes across the Pacific.

And Conrad’s arrest had just triggered a dead-man’s switch.

Ping.

A new message blinked onto Jasper's screen. No sender ID. Just a string of coordinates off the coast of Marseille and a single line of text:

The throne of the Concincaids is empty without a sacrifice. Welcome back to the board, Jasper.

Jasper didn't flinch. He didn't panic. He simply closed the laptop, picked up his Walther PPK from the desk drawer, and checked the magazine with a practiced, mechanical click.

He had spent ten years building an empire in the shadows of the West Coast. He had survived the worst the underworld had to offer. If The Assembly wanted a war, they had picked the wrong family.

He stood up, buttoned his suit jacket, and walked out the door, ready for whatever shadows lay ahead.
