Chapter 5 - The Unraveling of Elena VanceWith Randy hauled away in the back of a police cruiser, the living room suddenly felt lighter, as if a toxic fog had been lifted from the walls. But we weren't finished yet.

Elena was still standing in the middle of the hallway, her designer handbag clutched to her chest like a shield, her face mottled with rage and panic. She realized, with sudden terrifying clarity, that without her son’s fraudulent schemes keeping her afloat, her own extravagant lifestyle was about to collapse like a house of cards.

"You think you've won, Sarah?" Elena hissed, turning on her heel with a venomous glare. "You think a little police report is going to stop me? I know people in high places. I know the board members of your firm. I will make sure you never work another day in accounting again. You’ll be blacklisted!"

I calmly walked over to the kitchen island, picked up my tablet, and tapped the screen twice. Instantly, a new folder projected onto the smart TV mounted on the living room wall.

Elena’s eyes darted to the screen, and the color drained from her face completely.

"What... what is that?" she stammered, her voice losing its sharp edge.

"That, Elena, is the audit of the Vance Family Trust," I said smoothly, walking toward her with measured steps. "The trust you forced Randy to use as collateral for your country club debts, using forged signatures from your late husband’s estate."

Attorney Miller stepped forward, adjusting his glasses. "Mrs. Vance, we pulled the public registry records this morning. Not only is the trust currently insolvent, but the IRS has been auditing your capital gains for the last three years due to undisclosed offshore accounts in the Cayman Islands—accounts that Randy foolishly linked to his personal IP address."

Elena stumbled back against the wall, her breath coming in shallow, panicked gasps. "That's... that's illegal. You had no right to look into my personal finances!"

"When your finances intersect with my client’s stolen identity and forged mortgage documents, they become public domain real very quickly," my father added coldly. "In fact, I just forwarded a copy of this exact file to the federal tax division. They should be freezing your assets by roughly 2:00 p.m. Today."

Elena let out a choked sound of absolute disbelief. She looked at me not with anger anymore, but with a terrifying, hollow desperation. "Sarah... please. We're family. We can talk about this. Don't do this to me. I'm an elderly woman—"

"You're a predator," I interrupted, my voice devoid of any warmth or mercy. "And your visiting hours at the federal penitentiary are going to be very short. Security, please escort Mrs. Vance off the premises before I call the local towing company to impound her Mercedes."

The private security officer stepped forward, gesturing firmly toward the front door. Defeated, humiliated, and stripped of her social standing, Elena grabbed her purse, glared at me with pure hatred, and stormed out of the house, slamming the door behind her.
