Chapter 9 - THE GIFTChristmas morning arrived with a clear, blue sky. The plane was cleared for takeoff, but we didn't go straight to Denver. We sat on the tarmac, the twins playing with the gifts Ethan had miraculously pulled out of his luggage—gifts he’d had in his bag for months, hoping for a miracle.

"Will you stay?" he asked.

I looked at the children, then at the man who had traded his pride to protect them. "We'll go to Denver," I said. "But we have a lot to talk about."
