Chapter 1 - THE CRACKS IN TUSCANYThe private jet glided over the rolling golden hills of Tuscany, but inside the cabin, the atmosphere was as cold as a morgue.

Camille didn’t scream. She didn’t throw her crystal champagne flute against the leather bulkhead. That wasn't how women raised in old-money Boston high society handled betrayal. Instead, she slowly folded her silk napkin, her manicured nails leaving slight indents in the delicate fabric, and stared at Elliot with eyes that could freeze raging fire.
“Let me be entirely clear, Elliot,” Camille said, her voice dropping to a smooth, lethal whisper. “The Vance-Rhodes merger is signed. The press has already run the wedding photos. The stocks bumped seven percent this morning because the market believes we are the ultimate power couple. If you destroy this union over a bastard child from a woman who lives in off-brand clothes, I will pull my family's venture capital from Vance Enterprises before your flight even lands back in Logan.”
Elliot stared at his hands. The memory of Bella’s tiny, warm fingers wrapped around his index finger was still burned into his skin. Ellie Elephant. The child didn't just have his brow crease—she had his eyes, his mother’s chin, and a habit of holding her breath when she was nervous.
“She isn’t a bastard, Camille,” Elliot said, his voice terrifyingly quiet. “If she is mine... she is my blood.”
“She is a distraction!” Camille snapped, dropping her polished façade for a fraction of a second. “You spent three years burying Naomi Keller. You told me she was a mistake. You told me you were over her!”
“I lied,” Elliot confessed, looking directly into his wife’s eyes. The raw honesty in his tone hit Camille harder than any insult could have. “I lied to you, I lied to my father, and I lied to myself. I never stopped loving her.”
Camille’s jaw tightened. She reached into her Hermes handbag, pulled out her phone, and tapped the screen twice. “Then you have a choice to make, husband. You can spend this week in Tuscany playing the loving partner, pretend this little airport reunion never happened, and let my father’s lawyers smooth over any legal claims that cheap girl tries to make... or you can ruin yourself today.”
“Is that a threat?”
“It’s a business plan,” Camille replied coldly, turning her head toward the clouds outside.
For four agonizing days, Elliot played the puppet. He walked through sprawling vineyards, attended high-society dinners with Italian aristocrats, and posed for photographs that Camille instantly uploaded to social media. But every night, while Camille slept on her side of the massive king-size bed, Elliot stood on the stone balcony, staring at his phone.
He had dialed Naomi’s number forty-seven times.
Every single call went straight to voicemail.
“Hi, you’ve reached Naomi. Leave a message.”
His voice grew rasper with every attempt. “Naomi, please. I’m not doing this to hurt you. I just need to know. Is Bella mine? Please, talk to me.”
On the fifth night, a cryptic text message popped up on his screen from an unknown number. It contained no text—only an attachment. It was an image of an original birth certificate, scanned from a Boston hospital database.
Child Name: Isabella Grace Keller. Mother: Naomi Keller. Father: UNKNOWN.
Beneath the image was a short text message from his personal private investigator back in Boston:
[PI Harrison]: Boss, I dug into Naomi’s files. She left Boston three years ago, but six months after she disappeared, someone paid her $2 million out of an offshore account in the Cayman Islands. The condition? Complete secrecy regarding the paternity of her child. The money came directly from Vance Holdings.

Elliot’s phone slipped from his fingers, clattering onto the ancient marble floor.
His heart stopped. Naomi hadn't just walked away three years ago. Someone in his own family had bought her silence—and forced her to hide his daughter.
