Chapter 6 - The Boardroom AmbushThe following morning at 9:00 AM, the annual shareholder meeting of Ashcroft Global was standing room only.

Jonathan Ashcroft, an imposing man in his late sixties with silver hair and eyes as cold as arctic ice, stood at the podium in the grand auditorium, addressing hundreds of investors and flashing cameras.
“As you can see from our third-quarter projections, Ashcroft Global continues to dominate the real estate and infrastructure sectors,” Jonathan boomed, adjusting his gold-rimmed glasses with practiced arrogance. “Our growth is absolute, our foundation is unbreakable—”
Clack. Clack. Clack.
The heavy mahogany double doors at the back of the auditorium swung wide open.
Whispers swept through the crowd like wildfire.
Dylan Carter walked down the central aisle. He wasn't alone. Flanked by two federal marshals and four corporate lawyers carrying thick black briefcases, Dylan walked with the terrifying, unhurried grace of an executioner.
Jonathan stopped mid-sentence, his smile freezing on his face. “Dylan Carter? What the hell is the meaning of this? This is a private shareholder meeting—”
“It was a private meeting, Jonathan,” Dylan interrupted, his voice echoing cleanly through the auditorium's surround-sound speakers. “Until five minutes ago, when the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Environmental Protection Agency, and the U.S. Attorney’s Office froze all Ashcroft Global assets.”
The auditorium erupted into absolute pandemonium. Investors stood up, shouting, screaming, and pulling out their phones as stock tickers flashed red across the digital boards.
“You’re insane!” Jonathan shouted, slamming his hand onto the podium, his face turning purple with rage. “Guards! Throw him out!”
“The guards can’t help you, Jonathan,” Dylan said, stopping ten feet from the stage. He tossed a heavy manila folder onto the reporter’s desk at the front. “That contains federal indictments for industrial dumping, racketeering, witness intimidation, and the illegal termination and harassment of Rachel Vance ten years ago.”
Jonathan stumbled backward, the blood draining completely from his face. The name Rachel Vance hit him like a physical blow.

“She... she’s dead,” Jonathan stammered, his voice cracking.
“She was supposed to be,” Dylan replied, his eyes narrowing into slits of pure ice. “Instead, she raised two brilliant little girls who taught me what true dignity looks like. And now, she’s coming back to take everything you own.”
