Chapter 2 - THE SHADOW ENTERSEvery conversation in the room abruptly died.

A squad of ten men wearing identical black tactical suits and dark ties stepped into the ballroom, silently fanning out along the perimeter walls. The wealthy guests gasped, pulling back as the security guards cleared a fifteen-foot path directly down the center of the marble floor.
Then, he walked in.
Alexander Cross was a towering figure of broad shoulders and lethal elegance. Dressed in a bespoke charcoal-grey suit, his dark hair slicked back, his sharp hazel eyes swept across the room with devastating authority. A silver signet ring depicting a raven wrapped around a dagger gleamed on his left hand.
The room held its collective breath.
Everyone in New York high society knew Alexander Cross. He was a man who didn't attend galas—he owned the cities where galas took place. Mayor, senators, and federal judges bowed their heads when Alexander crossed the street.
Trevor Langley’s eyes widened in sudden, desperate ambition.
"My God... it’s Alexander Cross!" Trevor whispered to Victoria, straightening his lapels. "If I can get him to invest in my green-energy logistics initiative, our company will double its market cap!"
Ignoring Victoria’s hand, Trevor immediately stepped forward into the cleared pathway, putting on his most charming, corporate smile.
"Don Cross!" Trevor called out, extending his hand with shameless enthusiasm. "What an absolute honor! I’m Trevor Langley, CEO of Langley Logistics—"
Alexander didn't even look at Trevor’s outstretched hand.
He didn't even slow his stride.
Alexander walked right past Trevor as if the man were made of thin air, stepping directly up to Hannah.
The ruthless mob boss stopped inches from her.
His severe, terrifying face instantly softened. He reached out, his broad, calloused hand gently taking Hannah’s gloved fingers, bringing them to his lips for a soft, slow kiss.
"Are you all right, mia regina?" Alexander murmured, his voice rich with fierce, protective devotion.
Hannah smiled softly, her hand relaxing inside his warm grip. "I am fine, Alexander. Just dealing with trash."
Trevor froze. His hand hung awkwardly in the air, his jaw dropping so low it looked unhinged.
"W-What..." Trevor stammered, his face turning ghostly pale. "Hannah... who is this man to you?!"
Alexander slowly turned around.
May you like
The tenderness in his eyes vanished, replaced by an abyss of pure, terrifying predation. He looked down at Trevor like an apex predator observing an insect crawling across his boot.
"I am her husband," Alexander said softly. "And you... are a dead man standing."
