Chapter 9 - JUSTICE AT DAWNBy evening, the empire of Vanguard Global had officially crumbled.

Live television broadcasts across the globe flashed breaking news headlines: Vanguard Global Board Arrested in Massive International Corruption and Murder Sweep; Chairman Reginald Vance Detained by Interpol; Assets Frozen Pending Transfer to Legal Heirs.

Back in our luxury suite overlooking the glittering lights of Zurich, the storm had finally passed.

The penthouse was quiet, save for the soft sound of a cartoon playing softly on the television screen. Lily and Owen sat cross-legged on the oversized sofa, sharing a massive plate of chocolate chip pancakes prepared by the private chef.

Owen was still holding his threadbare teddy bear, but for the first time in days, the shadow of fear in his bright blue eyes was completely gone.

I stood by the floor-to-ceiling window, holding a glass of scotch, watching the snow gently fall over the Swiss Alps. The legal documents confirming my temporary guardianship—with full, permanent adoption proceedings already underway—sat signed and sealed on the mahogany table behind me.

The door opened softly, and Marco stepped inside, a tired but triumphant smile on his face.

"All federal warrants have been executed," Marco reported quietly. "Vanessa Vance is facing twenty years in a federal penitentiary with no chance of parole. Reginald and his board members aren't ever seeing daylight again. And the corporate assets have been successfully transferred into a secure trust fund bearing Lily and Owen's names."

I nodded slowly, taking a sip of my drink. "Good. Make sure the trust is impenetrable. Every cent they're owed goes right back to them."

Marco hesitated for a moment, looking over at the two children before turning back to me. "You know, Boss... looking at you right now, nobody would ever believe you're the ruthless billionaire who once bought out three shipping ports just to crush a rival."

I glanced back over my shoulder, watching Lily lean her head against Owen’s shoulder as she laughed at something on the television.

"People change, Marco," I said softly, a genuine smile touching the corners of my lips for the first time in years. "Some people spend their whole lives looking for power. I just realized I already have everything that matters."
