THE SECRET OF ROOM 402: THE DNA TEST THAT EXPOSED THE ULTIMATE BETRAYAL—AND AN UNFORGIVABLE CRIME CHAPTER 2 — "THE CODE HIDDEN IN THE LAB REPORT"

No one moved.

No one breathed.

The words hung over Room 402 like a death sentence.

"She isn't the baby's biological mother either."

Diego felt his knees weaken.

For a moment, he wondered if he had misheard.

"What... did you just say?"

Dr. Esteban Villarreal swallowed hard, his voice barely audible.

"The genetic screening compared blood samples collected from both parents and the newborn immediately after delivery."

"There is zero biological relationship between Valeria and the infant."

"The probability of maternity is... zero percent."

Valeria shook her head violently.

"No!"

"That's impossible!"

"I carried him for nine months!"

"I felt him kick!"

"I gave birth to him!"

Tears streamed down her face as she desperately clutched the hospital blanket.

"There has to be some mistake!"

Diego looked from his wife to the doctor.

For the first time since entering the room, he wasn't angry.

He was terrified.

"If she's not the mother..."

He turned toward the sleeping newborn.

"...then whose baby is this?"

No one answered.

Even Dr. Villarreal looked haunted.

He slowly removed another document from the folder.

"I wish that were the worst part."

Diego frowned.

"What else?"

The doctor placed a laboratory report on the bedside table.

At the bottom of the page, beneath the barcode, was a sequence of numbers printed in red ink.

RM-402-BX17

Diego stared at it.

"What does that mean?"

Dr. Villarreal hesitated.

"It isn't supposed to exist."

"What?"

"That code belongs to an internal maternity tracking system."

"It should never appear on a patient report."

Valeria wiped away her tears.

"I don't understand."

The doctor inhaled deeply.

"Every newborn delivered in this hospital receives an electronic identification number."

"But..."

He pointed toward the strange code.

"...BX17 is not a baby identification code."

"It's a restricted laboratory classification."

Diego's heartbeat accelerated.

"Restricted for what?"

The doctor lowered his voice.

"For newborn identity investigations."

The room fell silent again.

Diego stared at him.

"What exactly are you trying to tell us?"

Dr. Villarreal looked toward the closed door before answering.

"Someone inside this hospital believed there was a possibility that this child had been switched."

Valeria gasped.

"No..."

"No..."

"No..."

Diego felt his stomach twist.

"A baby swap?"

The doctor nodded slowly.

"It happens extremely rarely."

"But when blood typing reveals impossible genetic combinations..."

"The system automatically alerts the hospital genetics department."

Diego ran both hands through his hair.

"So another family..."

"...may have our child?"

The doctor didn't answer.

His silence was enough.

The Missing Records

At that moment, a frantic knock echoed through the room.

Three sharp knocks.

Dr. Villarreal immediately stiffened.

"Come in."

The door opened.

A young laboratory technician rushed inside, breathing heavily.

Her face had gone completely pale.

"Doctor..."

She stopped after seeing Diego and Valeria.

"I'm sorry..."

"But you need to see this."

She handed him a hospital tablet.

Dr. Villarreal's expression changed instantly.

His eyes widened.

"No..."

"That's impossible."

Diego stepped closer.

"What happened?"

The doctor slowly turned the screen toward him.

The maternity database was open.

Instead of showing delivery records...

A warning flashed across the display.

MATERNITY RECORDS — ROOM 402

ACCESS DENIED

FILE REMOVED

Diego frowned.

"Removed?"

The technician nodded nervously.

"Someone deleted every digital record connected to Room 402."

"The delivery log..."

"The nursing schedule..."

"The newborn wristband registration..."

"Everything."

Valeria covered her mouth.

"Oh my God..."

Diego looked at the doctor.

"Can someone erase hospital records that easily?"

"No."

"Only three people have authorization."

"Who?"

"The hospital director."

"Myself."

"And..."

The doctor stopped speaking.

"And who?"

"The head of neonatal security."

Before anyone could say another word...

The lights suddenly flickered.

Once.

Twice.

Then the monitors around the room briefly shut off before restarting.

The newborn began crying.

A nurse rushed in to check the equipment.

"It's just a power fluctuation."

But Diego noticed something strange.

The baby's identification bracelet...

...was gone.

He stared at the tiny wrist.

Empty.

"Where is his bracelet?"

The nurse froze.

"I..."

"I don't know."

Everyone looked at one another.

The bracelet had been there less than five minutes earlier.

No alarms had sounded.

No one had entered except the technician.

Yet somehow...

The baby's identity had vanished.

Again.

The Security Footage

"Lock down the maternity floor."

Dr. Villarreal's voice thundered through the hallway.

"No one leaves."

Within minutes, hospital security flooded the corridor.

The surveillance office began reviewing footage from every camera surrounding Room 402.

Ten minutes later...

A security officer entered carrying a laptop.

"We found something."

The video showed the hallway outside Room 402.

Time stamp:

2:17 p.m.

A woman dressed as a nurse pushed a newborn bassinet toward the elevator.

She kept her head lowered beneath a surgical cap.

Her face couldn't be seen.

"What room was she assigned to?" Diego asked.

The security officer typed rapidly.

"There isn't one."

"What?"

"The uniform number doesn't exist."

Everyone stared at the screen.

Then came the next shock.

The mysterious nurse stopped briefly beneath one of the hallway cameras.

Just long enough...

...for something to fall from her pocket.

A small silver key card.

Hospital security zoomed in.

Printed across the card were three words.

ROOM 402 ARCHIVE

Dr. Villarreal's face lost every trace of color.

Diego frowned.

"Archive?"

The doctor whispered almost to himself.

"I thought it had been destroyed..."

"What are you talking about?"

The older physician looked directly into Diego's eyes.

"Twenty-two years ago..."

"This hospital experienced the worst scandal in its history."

"A scandal buried with millions of pesos..."

"And several mysterious deaths."

"No records were supposed to remain."

He swallowed.

"But if someone still has access to the Room 402 Archive..."

"They're not just hiding one baby's identity."

"They're protecting a secret that has survived for more than two decades."

Just then...

Diego's phone vibrated.

An unknown number.

He answered.

A distorted voice whispered only one sentence before the call disconnected.

"If you want to see your real child alive... stop asking questions."

The line went dead.

Diego slowly lowered the phone.

His blood turned to ice.

Because whoever had called...

Already knew the truth.
