Chapter 6 - The Ultimate Empire

Six months later, the financial district of the city looked fundamentally different.

The sprawling glass skyscraper that once bore the proud, towering letters VANCE GLOBAL now bore a brand-new name carved in gleaming titanium: STERLING-MONTGOMERY HOLDINGS.

Inside the corner office on the 60th floor—a room twice as grand as Arthur’s old study—Clara sat behind an executive desk of polished mahogany, reviewing the final restructuring papers of the merged corporate empire. She was dressed in a sharp, charcoal-gray Chanel suit, her hair pulled back into a sophisticated chignon, exuding the effortless power of a titan of industry.

The door to her office clicked open.

Arthur walked in, holding two cups of artisanal black coffee. He set one down on her desk, walking over to the floor-to-ceiling window to gaze out at the bustling city below, where their ships dominated the North Harbor.

"You know," Arthur said, taking a slow sip of his coffee, "when I hired a hotel maid to protect my mother, I thought I was getting a clever employee. I had no idea I was unleashing a hurricane that would redraw the entire global economic landscape."

Clara leaned back in her leather chair, a slow, triumphant smile playing across her lips. She spun a heavy, gold-plated fountain pen between her fingers—the very pen she used to sign her revenge into reality.

"You gave me the match, Arthur," Clara replied smoothly, her amber eyes locking onto his with unwavering confidence. "I just provided the fire."

Arthur chuckled, raising his coffee cup in a silent toast. "And now? What does a conquering hero do when there are no more enemies left to fight?"

Clara stood up, walking over to stand beside him at the window, overlooking an empire they now ruled together.

"We don't rest, Arthur," she whispered, her voice laced with an intoxicating ambition that matched his own. "We build something eternal."
