Chapter 10 - The Architecture of TomorrowSix months later, the headlines across the financial world read very differently.

WHITMORE HOLDINGS RESTRUCTURED: NEW LEADERSHIP PLEDGES BILLIONS TO ENVIRONMENTAL CLEANUP. MARCUS VANCE CONVICTED IN HISTORIC 1998 FRAUD AND HOMICIDE TRIAL. ADRIEN WHITMORE STEPS DOWN AS CEO TO FORM PENDELTON-WHITMORE REDEVELOPMENT TRUST.
The grand estate on the Long Island Sound was no longer a cold museum of ghosts and inherited guilt. The heavy mahogany dining table had been moved into storage, replaced by open, sunlit spaces where laughter and life finally echoed through the halls.
On a crisp autumn afternoon, Adrien stood on the newly restored terrace, looking out over the sparkling waters of the Sound. The custom Tom Ford suits were gone, replaced by a simple linen shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows.
Footsteps approached softly behind him. He didn't need to turn around to know who it was.
Elena stepped up to the stone railing beside him, holding two crystal glasses of wine—poured precisely to the three-finger mark.
"The board meeting in Manhattan went well, I take it?" Elena asked, handing him a glass.
Adrien took the glass, his fingers brushing hers, warm and steady. He took a slow sip, looking out at the horizon where the construction cranes of their new, ethical urban renewal projects were busy building a radically different future.
"Better than well," Adrien said, turning to look at her with eyes that finally held no shadows left to hide. "They approved the Queens community park project. The old steel town site is officially zoned for green tech and public housing."
Elena smiled, a bright, radiant expression that made his chest tighten in the best possible way. "Your father would have liked that."
May you like
"My father would have loved it," Adrien corrected gently. He set his wine glass down on the stone ledge, slipped his arm around her waist, and pulled her close against him. "And more importantly... I think he finally approves of the estate manager."
Elena laughed, resting her head against his shoulder as the sun dipped below the horizon, bathing the entire world in a brilliant, unblemished gold.
