Chapter 8 - THE DAWN OF RECKONINGThe auditorium at Crestline Global Headquarters in downtown Chicago was packed to absolute capacity.

Hundreds of journalists, financial analysts, corporate executives, and international media cameras filled the tiered seating, all buzzing with frantic speculation. Word had leaked overnight that Crestline—the trillion-dollar aviation conglomerate—was about to announce a massive, unprecedented executive shakeup led by a mysterious new majority owner whose identity had been locked behind Swiss encryption for decades.

In the front row, sitting rigidly in an uncomfortable folding chair, was Grant Holloway.

He looked like a man who had aged ten years in twenty-four hours. His hair was uncombed, his eyes were bloodshot from a sleepless night on a park bench after the smart-lock app on his penthouse door had locked him out permanently. Beside him sat his mother, Patricia, whose face was twisted in a mask of bitter, humiliated rage, and his brother Nolan, whose phone had been confiscated by security at the entrance.

"This is a mistake," Patricia hissed under her breath, glaring at the empty stage. "When your father’s old friends find out about this—"

"Shut up, Mother," Grant muttered hollowly, staring at his shoes. He knew better now. He knew there were no old friends coming to save them. They were completely, irrevocably alone.

At exactly 9:00 AM, the lights in the auditorium dimmed.

The heavy velvet curtains parted.

Director Vance walked out onto the center of the stage, stepping up to the mahogany podium bearing the gold crest of Crestline Holdings.

The murmurs in the room died down instantly. Every camera lens pivoted toward the stage.

"Good morning, ladies and gentlemen, members of the press, and esteemed colleagues," Director Vance began, his voice booming through the sound system with absolute authority. "Today marks a historic turning point for Crestline Air Holdings. For thirty years, our operations have been guided in the shadows by our founding family trust. Today, the sole beneficial owner and supreme executive chairwoman steps into the light."

Vance turned toward the side wings of the stage, extending his hand.

"Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome the Chairwoman and Global Chief Executive Officer of Crestline Air Holdings: Elena Ruth Mercer Holloway."

The flashbulbs erupted like a million synchronized lightning bolts.

The side door opened, and Elena walked out onto the stage.

She wasn't wearing her mourning black anymore. She wore a sharp, impeccably tailored midnight-blue executive pantsuit that mirrored the colors of the empire she commanded. Her hair was pulled back in a sleek, powerful knot, and around her neck, resting proudly against her collar, was the tarnish-covered silver pendant: Stand. Don't crawl.

She walked with a grace and poise that commanded the entire room, stopping at the center of the podium.

In the front row, Grant Holloway slowly raised his head.

His jaw dropped. His eyes bulged as he stared up at the woman he had abandoned at Gate C18 yesterday evening—the woman he had mocked, belittled, and thrown out into the cold.

His wife.

"Thank you, Director Vance," Elena’s voice rang out, clear, melodic, and ice-cold, echoing through the massive auditorium and broadcasting live to millions of viewers worldwide.

"Before we discuss our global expansion metrics and Q3 projections," Elena continued, her eyes scanning the sea of journalists before drifting slowly down to the front row, locking directly onto Grant Holloway, "there is a matter of corporate hygiene and internal restructuring that must be addressed publicly."
