Chapter 2 - The Billionaire’s GazeThe silence in the boardroom was no longer tense; it was heavy with the weight of exposure. Nathaniel Ashford, a man who had made his fortune by seeing patterns where others saw chaos, stared at the ten-year-old girl in the gray dress. He didn't see a maid’s daughter. He saw an intellect that had just saved his legacy.

“Who taught you Japanese?” Nathaniel asked, his voice low.
“My mother,” Clara said, her gaze unwavering. “She worked as a private nanny for a diplomat in Tokyo for six years before we moved here. She taught me that words are the most dangerous tools in a room.”
Alden Cross, the operations director, tried to interject. “Mr. Ashford, this is ridiculous. A child’s interpretation is hardly legally binding.”

“Be quiet, Alden,” Nathaniel said without looking at him. He turned to the Japanese delegation. Chairman Sato was no longer looking at the contract. He was looking at Clara with profound respect.
“The girl is correct,” Sato said in perfect English, dropping the pretense. “Your director, Mr. Cross, has been negotiating a side deal to seize your Kyoto assets once the contract is signed. He thought we wouldn't notice the discrepancy in the clauses.”
