Chapter 9 - The Decryption and the TrapThe seconds ticked by like hours.

On the central monitor, a complex cryptographic visualizer began to spin, rendering swirling geometric patterns of red and green code. Maya sat quietly on a stool beside Ramiro, holding his calloused hand so tightly her knuckles turned white.

“Almost there,” Zed muttered, sweat beading on his forehead as he punched a final sequence of override commands into the terminal. “Their firewall is aggressive, but whoever designed this architecture... they left a backdoor. A very specific, elegant backdoor.”

Ramiro leaned closer. “Who?”

“Clara Vance,” Zed whispered in awe. “Wait—Clara Vance? As in the corporate heiress who reportedly died in a plane crash three years ago?”

“She didn't die in a plane crash,” Ramiro said darkly. “She was murdered by her own family.”

Before Zed could reply, the spinning geometric patterns on the screen suddenly turned a brilliant, solid GREEN.

A folder popped open on the desktop, titled simply: [VANCE_CORP_EXPOSÉ_ALL_FILES].

“Holy mother of...” Zed breathed, staring in disbelief at the cascading list of encrypted documents, audio logs, bank transfers, and video files. “This isn't just corporate embezzlement, Ramiro. This is international human trafficking, illegal weapons sales to warlords, and political assassinations spanning over two decades. This drive... this is a thermonuclear bomb in digital form.”

Suddenly, the red LED light on Zed’s custom firewall monitor started flashing frantically.

BEEP. BEEP. BEEP.

“Shit!” Zed yelled, slamming his hand onto the master power switch. “They traced the ping! They know exactly where the decryption took place! We’ve got less than two minutes before an armed strike team kicks this door off its hinges!”

Before Ramiro could grab the flash drive, the front heavy steel door of The Rusty Anchor exploded inward with a deafening blast.

Smoke filled the room as half a dozen heavily armed mercenaries in matte-black tactical gear swarmed into the cyber-cafe, their automatic rifles raised, red laser sights painting the walls.

At the front of the squad stepped a tall, imposing figure with a cold, scarred face and a silver Vance Corporation pin on his lapel—Victor Vance himself.

“Well, well, well,” Victor sneered, stepping over the wreckage of the door, his eyes locking onto Ramiro, Maya, and the glowing monitor behind the desk. “It seems the trash has finally tried to take out the garbage. Hand over the drive, mechanic. And maybe I’ll let the girl die quickly.”
