Chapter 6 - Breach of the SanctuaryThe pounding on the study door turned into a synchronized battering ram assault.

Bang! Bang! Bang!
“Mr. Hawthorne! Open up! Security breach!” shouted a muffled voice through the thick oak panels.
Before Julian could reach the door, the lock mechanism shattered with a deafening screech of splintered timber. The heavy door swung inward, revealing a squad of armed private security operatives—not Julian’s usual estate guards, but external mercenaries hired specifically by Harrison Prescott’s private detail. Leading them was Viktor Vance, Harrison’s ruthless head of security, holding an assault rifle pointed straight at Julian’s chest.
“Drop your weapons! Hands on your head, Hawthorne!” Viktor barked, his eyes scanning the chaotic room—Harrison groaning on the floor, Camille sobbing on the rug, Arthur trembling in the corner, and Nora standing over the wreckage with a brass lamp.
Julian slowly raised his hands, his face a mask of cold fury. “You’re standing on the wrong side of history, Viktor. The federal data drop has already been initiated.”
Viktor sneered, stepping further into the room. “Mr. Prescott pays my salary, Mr. Hawthorne. Federal servers don't cash paychecks on Friday mornings.” He gestured to two of the guards. “Tie them up. Zip-ties on all of them. Secure the ledger and the girl. Mr. Prescott has a private helicopter waiting on the east lawn.”
“You won't get off the grounds,” Nora said, her voice eerily calm as the guards rushed toward her. She didn’t run. She reached into her pocket and pulled out the antique locket, holding it up like a talisman. “The estate’s emergency lockdown protocol is tied to my biometric signature. The moment you cross the perimeter fence, the perimeter mines and automated defense grids activate.”
Viktor paused, his eyes narrowing. “What nonsense are you babbling about?”
“Ask Julian who built the underground security grid eighteen years ago,” Nora replied with a cold smile. “My father designed it. And he left a backdoor that only a Hayward could open.”
Julian caught on instantly. He didn't hesitate. With a sudden, explosive movement, he lunged sideways, slamming his elbow into the master wall panel behind the desk and ripping the emergency manual override lever straight out of the wall.
WHOOP! WHOOP! WHOOP!
The entire estate plunged into crimson emergency lighting. Sirens wailed through every corridor, and heavy steel blast shutters dropped over every window and door, sealing the third-floor study off from the outside world like a subterranean vault.
“Shoot him! Shoot him!” Harrison screamed from the floor, clutching his dislocated shoulder.
Viktor raised his rifle, his finger tightening on the trigger—
CLANG!

Arthur Pendelton, fueled by a sudden burst of desperate adrenaline, hurled his heavy leather briefcase straight into Viktor’s face. The mercenary staggered backward, his rifle discharging harmlessly into the floorboards as Nora swept her leg out, kicking the weapon out of his hands and sending it sliding across the room.
The remaining guards rushed forward, but Julian met them head-on, throwing punches with the brutal, uncalculated fury of a man who had just discovered his entire life was built on a foundation of blood and lies.
