Chapter 4 - Poison in the Golden Cup

Marcus didn't waste a second. He stormed down the grand hallway into Clara’s bedroom.

Inside, Clara was asleep, but her breathing was shallow and ragged. On her nightstand sat an empty porcelain teacup.

Sitting on the edge of her bed, adjusting a hypodermic needle in the dim light, was Richard Sterling—Marcus’s most trusted advisor and co-founder of Vance BioTech.

"Richard!" Marcus roared, raising his gun. "Step away from my daughter!"

Richard slowly turned around. There was no fear in his eyes—only a cold, calculating smile.

"Ah, Marcus. Always so quick to anger, so slow to realize the truth," Richard said smoothly, setting the syringe down. "You really thought tonight was just a charity gala? Clara’s condition was deteriorating anyway. I’m simply expediting her... peace."

"You poisoned her four years ago! You caused the crash!" Marcus shouted, his hand trembling on the trigger.

"I needed the Neural-Sync formula!" Richard hissed, his mask slipping. "Your wife hid it! She gave it to Dr. Julian! But Julian destroyed the notes! I spent four years looking for the key, and tonight, a dirty street rat magically makes your crippled daughter stand up? It didn't take a genius to figure out that Julian’s son was still alive!"

Richard pressed a small button on his wrist.

Instantly, the door burst open. Two heavy mercenaries rushed in, disarming Marcus in a fraction of a second and slamming the billionaire against the wall.

"Where is the boy, Marcus?" Richard asked quietly, picking up the syringe. "Tell me, or I inject this neurotoxin directly into Clara’s brain. She won't survive five minutes."
