Chapter 10 - THE FOUNDATION OF FOREVERSix months later, the Busan waterfront looked entirely different.

The old, intimidating concrete barriers that had locked the city away from the sea for decades were gone, replaced by a sweeping, magnificent public promenade designed with graceful curves, warm stone, and open glass pavilions that welcomed the ocean breeze.
Thousands of people walked along the waterfront—families, children, tourists, and locals enjoying the open air, exactly as a public space was always meant to be used.
At the center of the promenade, near the main entrance plaza, stood a plaque engraved with the names of the lead architectural designers.
At the bottom of the plaque, two names were bound together in clean, timeless lettering: Daniel Kang & Mia Parker.
In the courtyard of the Kang hillside mansion, the evening air was warm, sweet with the scent of blooming pines and sea salt.
There were no formal corporate dinners tonight. No closed-door meetings with anxious executives. No rival fiancées with platinum-and-diamond rings.
Instead, the long wooden tables in the garden were filled with laughter, clinking glasses, and the warm, genuine chatter of family—Halmeoni smiling brightly from her silk seat, Lily teasing her brother across the table, and Robert Kang raising a glass of wine with a rare, peaceful expression of genuine happiness.
Away from the crowd, standing near the stone balustrade overlooking the glittering lights of the harbor and the open, welcoming sea below, Mia leaned against Daniel’s side.
On her left hand, the simple gold band with its oval diamond caught the amber glow of the garden lanterns—warm, bright, and solid.
Daniel wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her close against his chest.
“You know,” Daniel whispered against her hair, “my father is still trying to figure out how an American architect managed to outsmart three generations of Busan shipping magnates with a zoning map.”
Mia smiled, turning her face up to meet his dark, loving eyes.

“Tell him good architecture isn't about locking people out, Daniel,” she whispered, her lips curving into a soft, confident smile as he leaned down to kiss her. “It’s about building something strong enough to let the world in.”
And as the ocean waves hummed a steady, eternal rhythm against the shore below, they stood together on a foundation that nothing in this world could ever shake.
