Chapter 5 - The Downfall at Wall StreetAt exactly 8:55 AM, just five minutes before the opening bell of the New York Stock Exchange, a sleek black Maybach pulled up directly in front of the monolithic glass-and-steel skyscraper housing Vance Capital.

Christian Vance stepped out of the vehicle, adjusting his designer overcoat with an air of untouchable arrogance. Surrounded by two private bodyguards, he strode through the revolving glass doors toward the private elevator bank, his mind already racing with the prospect of total victory. By noon, Ethan Cole’s multi-billion-dollar empire would be crippled by federal fraud charges, and Christian would regain his crown as the undisputed king of Manhattan finance.
He stepped into his private penthouse office on the forty-fifth floor, pouring himself a glass of aged single-malt scotch before walking over to the floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking Wall Street.
His phone buzzed violently on the mahogany desk.
Christian picked it up with a smirk. It was a secure encrypted ping from his lead Swiss banking associate at Apex Trust in Zurich.
“Everything is in motion,” Christian muttered to himself, raising his glass in a silent toast to his own reflection. “Goodbye, trailer trash.”
He tapped the screen to answer the call.
Instead of his Swiss associate's voice, however, what came through the speaker was the cold, synthesized tone of an automated federal security alert, followed immediately by the booming, authoritative voice of Marcus Vance, Ethan’s chief legal counsel.
“Christian Vance. This is Federal Special Agent Vance speaking on an open conference line. You are currently connected to a multi-jurisdictional federal wiretap.”
Christian’s smirk vanished instantly. His hand jerked, spilling amber scotch across the polished mahogany desk.
“What is this nonsense?” Christian barked into the phone, his voice suddenly pitching up with panic. “Who authorized this line? I’ll have your badge by noon!”
“You won't have an office by noon, Christian,” a second voice cut through the speaker.
Ethan Cole.
The voice was calm, steady, and terrifyingly cold.
“As of eight fifty-six AM,” Ethan continued smoothly over the encrypted line, “Northstar Systems’ legal division has filed a comprehensive criminal counter-indictment with the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York. We’ve submitted complete cryptographic ledgers from Apex Trust in Zurich, detailing five years of shadow-lending, forged corporate liabilities, and premeditated interstate wire fraud.”
“That’s... that’s impossible!” Christian shrieked, slamming his fist onto the desk. “Apex Trust is protected by quantum encryption! You couldn't possibly have breached those servers!”
“Your developer, Viktor Novak, left his diagnostic backdoor open two years ago, Christian,” Ethan replied evenly. “Amateur mistake. Never leave a window unlocked when you’re trying to rob a house.”
Before Christian could speak another word, the heavy oak doors of his forty-fifth-floor office were violently kicked open.
Four armed federal marshals in tactical gear swarmed into the room, their badges gleaming under the recessed office lighting. Two of them grabbed Christian by both arms, forcefully twisting him around and slamming his hands onto the mahogany desk before clicking heavy steel handcuffs around his wrists.
“What are you doing? Do you know who I am?!” Christian roared, struggling wildly as his expensive silk tie was crumpled against the wood. “This is a mistake! Cole is framing me!”
“Christian Vance, you are under arrest for federal wire fraud, securities manipulation, and corporate espionage,” the lead federal marshal announced coldly, reading him his rights as they hauled him toward the private elevator.
As Christian was dragged out of his office, kicking and screaming in absolute humiliation, his eyes caught the wall-mounted Bloomberg financial terminal across the room.
The opening bell of the New York Stock Exchange had just rung.
On the massive digital trading floor screens below, Northstar Systems stock surged fifteen percent in a single minute, while Vance Capital’s corporate shares experienced an instantaneous, catastrophic freefall—dropping ninety-eight percent in value before trading was permanently halted by NYSE circuit breakers.
Christian’s empire wasn't just defeated. It was completely obliterated in real-time for the entire financial world to watch.
Back in the glass penthouse overlooking Manhattan, Ethan Cole slowly lowered his phone. He took a calm sip of his black coffee, watching the morning sunlight pierce through the skyscrapers.
Maria stood nearby, holding little Lily, who was happily coloring a brand-new picture with a bright yellow crayon.
“Mr. Cole,” Maria said quietly, her voice tinged with a mix of awe and lingering disbelief. “Is it really over?”
May you like
Ethan turned around, looking at the two people who mattered most in a world that had tried to destroy him with gold and greed. He walked over, gently crouching down beside Lily, and smiled.
“Yeah, Maria,” Ethan said softly, his eyes warm and completely at peace. “It’s over. And now... we finally get to start building the real house.”
