Chapter 6 - THE RETRIBUTIONGriffin’s fury was unbounded. Eight years of grief, guilt, and rage erupted into every blow he threw.

He pinned Vance against the frame of the open plane door, the freezing wind tearing at their clothes at 300 miles per hour. Below them lay the sharp, icy peaks of the Canadian Rockies.

"She was your sister!" Griffin roared over the deafening wind, punching Vance squarely in the jaw.

"She... was... weak!" Vance choked out, pulling a hidden trench knife from his boot and slashing across Griffin’s ribs.

Pain flared through Griffin’s side, but he barely felt it. Blood soaked his shirt, but he grabbed Vance by the tactical vest, dragging him half-out of the open doorway.

"You took eight years of my life with my daughters!" Griffin growled into Vance’s ear. "You made her suffer alone!"

"Kill me... you still lose..." Vance wheezed with a bloodied grin. "The poison... it’s a two-stage toxin... she dies in twelve hours... unless you get the antidote from the Syndicate leader..."

"Who is he?" Griffin demanded, pulling him back an inch from the abyss. "WHO IS HE?"

"Look in the mirror, Drake..." Vance laughed maniacally. "Who funded... the project... twenty years ago?"

Griffin’s blood ran cold.

Drake Global Logistics. His father’s empire. The company Griffin had inherited and expanded. The secret military program wasn't created by foreign agents—it was created by the Drake family decades ago.

"Goodbye, Vance," Griffin said coldly.

He unclipped Vance’s parachute harness and shoved him out into the open sky.

Griffin slammed the heavy door lever, sealing the airlock. The cabin re-pressurized. Griffin collapsed onto the carpet, clutching his bleeding side as the red emergency lights bathed the room in crimson.

Hazel and Iris crawled out from beneath a bolted table, tears streaming down their faces. They ran to him, throwing their arms around his neck.

"Daddy!" Iris sobbed. "Daddy, you're bleeding!"

It was the first time she had called him Daddy.

Griffin wrapped his arms tight around both of his daughters, burying his face in their hair, weeping quietly for the first time in his adult life. "I've got you. I've got you both. I'll never let anyone hurt you again."
