Chapter 5 - The ConfrontationThe next morning, Daniel found Anna in the sunroom. She was helping Leo move his legs in a range-of-motion exercise that looked remarkably like medical rehabilitation.
“Why didn't you tell me you were a doctor?” Daniel demanded, slamming the door.
Anna didn't flinch. She just kept moving Leo’s knee. “Because you didn't hire a doctor, Mr. Carter. You hired a maid. And because doctors are the people who told you six months ago that your son would never walk again. I’m not here to be a doctor. I’m here to be a human being.”

“No,” she stood up, her shadow stretching across the floor. “I’m the only person in this house who believes he has a future. You’ve already buried him, Daniel. I’m just trying to dig him out.”
