The house wasn't a tomb anymore. It was filled with the sounds of a child running—well, stumbling and running.
Daniel stood in the kitchen. He took a pot and placed it on the floor. He sat down.
Leo laughed and grabbed a spoon.
Anna stood in the doorway, watching them.
Daniel looked at her, and for the first time in his life, he didn't see an employee, or a liability, or a maid. He saw the woman who had held his family together when he was too broken to do it himself.
He didn't just have a kingdom anymore. He had a home.
